Title: CM Storm QF Stealth cost
Post by: Arbalest on Fri, 18 April 2014, 16:39:31
I was going to post this anyway, before my inbox showed today's email from Massdrop.

A while ago I ordered the Cherry MX demo keypad from the CM Store, liking the idea that the $15 would be credited towards a purchase.  The keypad required $1.90 for shipping. I knew I wanted MX-brown, but since the cost would be applied I to a purchase I thought I would be safe and ordered it anyway.

Last week I ordered the Stealth model from them and the shipping was another $12+.  Together, the total spent on the CM Store was $104.23

Then I noticed that on Amazon the same keyboard is $95 including shipping.

Forgetting about the demo board completely that is still about $5 less via Amazon.

Now I get this email from Massdrop and it's $74 with shipping?   :(

=====

I will say that it is a good solid/stable keyboard and I like the clean look.  I type with the keyboard way out in front of me so I can support my forearms on my desk.  In that mode I have a full view of the lettering on the front sides of the keys. I didn't want complete stealth anyway -- I just didn't want to see all of that other stuff they print on the QFR.

Also, I never game -- just typing and coding for me -- and it's working out well.  The red LED on the caps lock key is easier to spot than an LED up in the corner so that's good.  And overall I like the feel and the sound.  One concern is mat-rubber finish.  I sometime I rest my fingers around the arrow cluster and now after 2 days there is enough skin oil on the rubbery finish to make it shine in that area.  Maybe after a while all of the rubbery areas will look the same.

CM sells KBs in their webstore for MSRP, whereas many vendors will sell for under MSRP (having a better price for mare sales, but cutting into their margin for each sale.)

It's a great KB, glad you liked.

Simple rule to help you relax..

any item <$500, any discrepancy <$500 = chump change...     live and let die..

I have seen QFR listed for as little as $60 (with MIR and discount and maybe something else).

You can wait and wait and compare prices as much as you like, but if you find a reasonable price and buy it, you can enjoy the keyboard for longer.

My keyboard of choice at work is QFS (MX green) - fantastic board!
