In this video I show some variety of keycaps (OEM, Cherry/BSP/GMK, ABS, PBT,...) and explain their differences. The video is kind of unstructured in some parts but I think it's not too bad. I should write a small script next time I guess :D
Also available in 1080p! As always, any feedback is appreciated :thumb:

This is a nice introduction to various keycap manufacturing for people new to the keyboard scene. I liked the first person perspective as well, and your voice is soothing :)

Great video! Consider me soothed. :D

Watched this yesterday, great video! I script wouldn't hurt, but who am I to complain. :p

Good job. :thumb:

Good, high-quality video. However, is the windowed Capslock keycap really doubleshot? I don't see anything underneath, so I'm assuming it's pad-printed.

The clear window is the second shot. The text is pad printed.

Oh, I see. I didn't know the window plastic itself is considered a second layer since non-doubleshot, stock keycap sets come with windowed keycaps such as Num/ScrollCaps Lock. (Ex: Leopold FC200R)

I posted this to reddit. If you want me to pull it down let me know. I don't bite.

That depends, I'm not sure how OEM keycaps achieve the windows in the keycaps as they are usually just a small piece of clear plastic (I have an FC200R and looked it up, it's not molded into the keycap as there are tiny gaps between the clear and solid plastic, so it's not doubleshot), but as I mention in the video, the clear plastic on Cherry keycaps is definately a second layer and therefore doubleshot.

I don't visit Reddit but I don't mind ;)

Not sure, it's not my channel and it was the standard setting.

This video was awesome. I liked how you prefaced the sandpaper bit by saying "Don't be scared!" then you showed the cut doubleshot :P

Should we change that?

i set that for my videos because i create a discussion thread in making stuff for each video. that way the knowledge-base can be added to with the comments on the video rather than gems ending up in a sea of silly youtube comments. i think if you just start a thread and link to the thread in the description it's easier for the keepers to organize the result.

great video blu! waiting for modding
WhiteFireDragon's videos (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL00EjuPMbgnJjsuSKyX9OkrKG2NvuHzgX) on modding were very helpful for me when I started. I'll have to add his videos or link them somehow to the Geekhackers Youtube Channel

I made a video about dissassembling a Cherry MX switch here: I will definately do some modding stuff (next videos will be a cable sleeving video and something about stabilizers). If you have any requests for videos feel free to ask, I'm always looking for what I could do next :thumb:
