Title: Lubed stock switches?
Post by: Defect on Mon, 28 April 2014, 17:14:22
Ran out of springs when re - swapping my choc mini, and took apart one of my TG3 Data911s with blacks so I could rock Panda Clears and Ghost Blacks.

I found first that the data911, while plate mounted,  has pcb mount switches (with the legs.)

I also used to hate blacks (the switches!), but liked them on the Data911.

When I opened up the switches, I found a small amount of lube on the legs of every switch.  Not on the sides/sliders, just on the legs that meet the leaf.

Anyone ever heard of already lubed stock switches?  I heard rumors that MX Whites not only have longer legs than blues and greens but also come with a little lube as well.

Both my Browns and Clears appeared to have some light grease on the "fingers" of the sliders where they touch the leaf. The main plastic-on-plastic area of the slider was unlubed, though.

AFAIK all factory MX switches have a very small amount of lube on the switch legs that contact the leaf spring.

BUT that does not usually qualify for what most people talk about doing when they say they lubed their switches.

All Cherry MX switches are factory lubed. MX Whites are weird, my guess is that there a)a different type of lube or b)more lube on them. Cherry kind of denies this though so I'm not sure.

All Cherry MX switches are factory lubed.

It's not necessary. You can just lube them as is.

Odd, I never noticed it when I bought bags of switches.

And yeah, it was such a small amount I'd hardly call it lubed, but still for some reason I liked blacks on that board.
