I just got my first programmable TKL (WANG Saver :p) and I'm learning how to use the Flip software.
For 60% layouts, I generally set up HHKB shortcuts for the Fn layer. But with this TKL, I'm drawing a blank on useful ways to use the Fn layer.
That's not necessarily a problem, of course! But I'm still curious to know: have you guys found a useful way to use your TKL fn layers?

for a tkl, you don't really need any layers. Maybe some for media control and an imbedded numpad, but thats pretty much it

That's pretty much my conclusion as well, just wondering if there are any super clever ideas out there.

I don't really use it much on my KMAC. Just put the numpad keys on the number row.
You could solder a MX lock on for the Fn key then make the Fn layer a COLEMAK layout. That would be cool.

Not a bad idea at all. Do you happen to know how to handle an MX lock switch w/ the XML markup?

I have no idea how to deal with KMAC XML. It has been a long time since I used that software. Once I ported my firmware to the KMAC, I never looked back.
However, the reason I mentioned a MX Lock is that I didn't think that KMAC had a toggled Fn key, but I may have been wrong about that. In any case, you shouldn't have to put anything about the specific switches in your software description. I don't know why you would need to describe that.

Metalliqaz, does your Easy AVR support an MX Lock switch?

Firmware support not required. All the MX Lock does is simulate holding the switch down.
Say you had two layouts, one normal and one on the Fn layer. If all you have available is a regular old momentary Fn key, then you would need a Lock switch to keep the Fn layer active while you type. If you have a Fn key that works as a toggle, or is software lockable, then normal switches would be just fine. Easy AVR USB supports all kinds of Fn modes. (momentary, toggle, lockable)

Ah that's good to know. I thought I had read elsewhere that locking switches needed firmware support. TIL :D

Yes, thanks for the info! MX Lock is definitely cooler than a Fn toggle, but the trick is finding one for sale.

They do if you want to use them for Caps or Num lock. I have a "locking caps" code in my firmware that handles a MX lock on the caps lock key. It sends a caps press on the down stroke and another one on the upstroke.

Media keys are the same as on a BlackWidow which was my previous keyboard, and i just added mouse control for fun really.

I haven't got a programmable board, but if I did I'd program it exactly like a Filco.
I like Filco layout a lot.
