Thats an awesome idea. I have no experience, but I would definitely donate to that fund.

Nowhere on that page does it say what materials this tool can mill.  Since they don't say, I expect it can only do soft plastics and wood.

On their website they tentatively say it can work with aluminum, to an extent.  They also have videos of it milling aluminum: http://www.mydiycnc.com/video

It would be like milling an aluminum case using a Dremel. The results probably wouldn't look very good, if it worked at all.

Also, please use guest mode links when posting a Massdrop link.

Add "?mode=guest_open" to the end of your link, like this: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/mydiycnc-sprite-cnc-machine-kit?mode=guest_open

:)

Hmmm. Well that sucks. Also why does massdrop block guests. It's a really dumb business decision, or am I missing something.

It has been discussed before.  They don't care how dumb it is.  They jumped on the bandwagon and they aren't getting off.

But I assume they sell reasonably sized CNC machines that can do aluminum, at a reasonable price? Cause if they do, I still think It would be great to have someone here who could do that

"Reasonable" for a machine that can properly mill aluminum probably means "less than $10,000"

I think this is a little harsh. They have to do stuff like that so that they can sell things lower than the minimum advertised price. They can operate like a buyers club and get around that restriction.

makes a lot of sense to me, but I work in retail, so I have to put up with manufacturer BS on a daily basis.
