Title: Making another wooden wrist rest for a 'customer'

A  buddy of mine contacted me about making a wrist rest for Quickfire TK. He opted for a custom green stain. This piece is slightly different than the original piece that I made, this one has a thinner base plate and the angle of the WR is not as sharp, thus causing the angle to more "natural" on your wrists

This is the color that Ed wanted, it's a custom green from Porter Paint

First step is cutting the pieces to length and gluing them together

After drying, it's now time to cut the initaial angle

After cutting the angle I then sand it smooth and get ready for stain

Testing it on my QFR (note the W.R. is NOT for a QFR)

after COUNTLES coats of stain we get this (this stain didn't soak well at all)

Thank you for sharing!  I like different-colored stains and actually got a shade very similar to the above years ago for a wood project that I never finished.  Pretty cool to see your work in progress.

thanks, I think it will look much better after I wetsand/polish and it gets a nice shine to it

What is the reason behind attaching a bottom piece of wood to go under the keyboard?  It ends up raising the keyboard.  I usually find it more comfortable to have the keyboard as low as possible.

It raises the keyboard maybe 2mm (if that), and they are to keep your keyboard from sliding around (think about the pads on the bottom of dinning room chairs to keep them from sliding and from possibly scratching the floor)

2mm if that?  I see at least a centimeter and a half there, as seen from the side.  Also a lot of current mechanicals have some rubber pads underneath to help prevent sliding around.

EDIT 2: I totally misunderstood you, I thought you were referring to the anti-slip pads. The bottom plat is 1/2" (1.27cm) thick and the wrist rest is 3/4" (1.9cm) thick. The reason for the plate is to keep the keyboard in place with the wrist rest (to keep them together if that makes sense). If people were interested, I could try an even thinner piece of wood (1/4")(0.64cm) for the base plate
