Post by: selist on Mon, 05 May 2014, 14:06:13
So im a complete noob at modifying keyboards but i was interested in some bright white key caps after browsing the forums and wondering where i could get some to completely revamp my noppoo choco mini keyboard with red switches.

At a glance it has a small right shift... not sure how easy it is to replace caps on these.

Someone else will have to chime in...

The Choc Mini is a great keyboard but it can be very difficult to change out the caps.  Perhaps the most difficult is the space bar.  Looks like 5.5x maybe?  Very non-standard.

I don't own one but I have been looking into 75% boards and I've been told that the Choc mini spacebar is a pain to find. Right shift should also be the only other non-standard keycap.

Most sets with Tsangan kits will have everything you need except the spacebar. Mix of 1x and 1.5x modifiers, 1.75x right shift and a few extra 1x bottom row keys.

Dat space bar, though.... It is a 5.5x. Good luck.

You may just have to buy a white Choc Mini. Or better yet, a Keycool 84 which has a "normal" 6.25x spacebar, but almost identical character layout as the Choc Mini, including the embedded numpad. With that set you only need to worry about the 1.75x right shift (just like the KBT Pure I use).

Only thing that came close to fitting a Choc mini spacebar is one I got off a TG3 Data911.   But it's also black, and I don't have the inserts to test.

Cherry 1800 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/G81-1800LPMUS-0-Cherry-Model-MY-1800-White-Keyboard-/390613127230?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item5af25b503e) will get you most of the way. Keys are the same height as the stock ones too, so it won't feel awkward while you hunt down the 1.5 Ctrl and Alt from an older winkeyless Cherry model to match. You will be out of luck on the spacebar. Or... you could always try and get a trade on a set of white Choc mini caps.

What does "need" mean? The stock set is already one of the best in the market: thick Cherry-profile POM. If you want higher quality printing or light-colored keycaps for aesthetic reasons, consider Cherry dyesub alphas; they're quite durable too and have a matching profile. You could find even other key replacements, but spacebar width is unique (5.something indeed).

Unfortunately, white PBT choc mini appears to be EOL.
