Title: Is a TKL an 80% Board?
Post by: Txduck on Fri, 09 May 2014, 03:32:38
Just curious, people call boards 60%, 75%, 80%,
What is a standard TKL like Ducky, is that an 80% board?
And what is that based on, number of keys, or just physical measurements or?

Tkls aren't true to their name, it's not 104 minus 10 keys
They're generally 87 key for winkey versions and 86 for winkeyless

An example of a standard 87-key 'TKL' is the cm storm QFR or any keyboard that has alphas and mods, function row, the prt scrn, pause, scroll lock, pg up and down, home and  end, del and insert, and arrow keys in a standard layout like the one in your post.

87/104= ???

83%, rounded down.

Still, hardly anyone uses that name. TKL is much easier to understand.

Thanks Jacco. I just asked because something I read made it sound like it was based on the size of the board instead of number of keys.
Thanks again.

Here is some more info but then regarding 60% boards. It helps to understand how they came to that name.

That sheds a little more  light on it.  :thumb:
Thanks
It was probably a dumb question to begin with, but curiosity will do that to you sometimes.  :D

Word.

Just like in a gym, mutual respect is valued here. GH is a place where you go to learn, no one is here to laugh of you.

We can't all be know-it-alls in mechanical keyboards.

Is it a dumb question to ask what a dumb question is?
