One of the contributing factors to my problems was that I would rest my wrists on the desk in front of my keyboard. It was really hard to get out of that habit.
Earlier today, I saw a photo on the back of a piano book - someone playing the piano with a coin resting on the back of their hand. It's a bit late for me, but I thought it might help some body else.

I've been trying to solve this problem for myself....I've found using stacked wrist rests help as well as adjusting my arm rests.
It's still very hard though....not a bad idea but I'd be dropping coins so often :(. How did you solve the problem hoggy?

I found it easier when I was learning Dvorak, probably because it was so different from my previous typing... I wonder if anyone else has noticed it as well.
Edit - I'm being a Numbskull, typing with wrist braces for a while was probably the biggest help, as they made very difficult to type that way.

I have standing workstations and ergonomic keyboards. And when I have a flat keyboard, I use my Mousetrapper mouse as a palm rest.
In conclusion, stand and use ergonomic keyboards and mice.

The coin trick would be difficult with a SafeType.

Is it okay if the wrists are in the air but the lower arm near the elbows in on the edge of the desk?
-
Pacifist, it's better than resting your wrists, but it's not good I'm afraid.

So only fingers on the board?

I suppose with all the coins you'd drop but not find again - buying a Maltron would seem like a bargain...

It's obviously bad, but for different reasons.
@OP, coins (or anything) on my hands would annoy the hell out of me.

I think having your elbows occasionally on the table is probably fine as long as you change your position frequently and you aren't typing extended amounts in that configuration. E.g. if you're browsing the web and occasionally hitting the down arrow, I imagine resting your elbows isn’t that bad. If you need to type a novel, you probably want to get your full body into a comfortable ergonomic position. [But I admit, I’m not an expert. This is just what I find from my own personal experience.]

I was literally just thinking this today.
What I have done at work, when I type the most, is have my phone plugged into the power, put a stream of some game on there, and just prop it up, half on the desk and half on the case of my keyboard, that way I don't want to rest my wrists on my phone. However I am the only person I know who hits their spacebar with their index finger, so that might be a bit harder for normal people who use their thumbs.
But it seems to work for me.
