Hey all,
I just bought a Corsair MM200 Extended Mousemat from NewEgg, and this thing reeks. I actually removed it from my desk because it smelled so strongly. Oddly enough, Corsair makes a point to say that it is made from natural rubber and therefore should not have that "harsh chemical" smell. Funnily enough, this claim made me question it more, because it seems to imply it shouldn't really smell. Does natural rubber smell kind of fishy? If that's the normal smell I won't worry about it too much.
The smell is starting to dissipate from the mat itself, but the smell is still lingering on my laptop, HHKB and mouse :( Any tips for getting rid of the smell? Thanks guys!

febreze? Usually mousepads smell, and at that size, they smell a lot

Not too sure about Febrezing my mouse and keyboard, haha. If it is a normal thing I won't worry about it too much. I wouldn't have thought it too strange if they hadn't specifically brought it up as a talking point!

Natural rubber tends to reek, and it usually smells fishy.

I LOL-ED AT THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD (no offence)
mine's a qck+ and it smell's like mouldy chocolate plus chips and dirt and whatever's on my fingers when i'm surfing the net while eating

forgot to mention it didn't smell pleasant when it's fresh too.

Try farting on it, it might change smell, but it will smell more like you instead.

I have had a few mouse pads with the same issue what I end up doing is putting it on the line outside to blow in the breeze, usually after a day or so its not that bad, bit of a annoyance I know but its not too bad you could also hand wash it with shampoo although I have never needed to do this for a new pad, hope everything goes well, I would say let it air for a day or so.

Haha, not offended. It's a silly title.

You could try washing it with some towels . Just don't dry it too. Let it air dry.. The smell usually comes from the rubber and adhesive mix . If it has felt or a screen printing it may also add addition smells
-
Wash it with soap ? :D That's what I do when my mousepad tends to get dirty after time.

A mouse surface like you are describing came bundled with a monitor riser as part of a kit. Took about 2-3 months to air out.

Funny, I actually work with a lot of nasty chemicals for dyes and stuff, but the one that I absolutely loathe the smell of is the natural latex mask I use for blocking off stuff. Totally safe to inhale (unless you are allergic) but just smells vile.

I can't believe I actually smelled my mousepad just to check if it smelled or not. :))
