Title: One key on my CoolMaster Storm Stealth keyboard randomly stopped working.
Post by: Rufkme on Thu, 15 May 2014, 15:37:31
So I was typing and the next second the "O" key is not responding anymore. I have had this keyboard for less than 2 months.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm a college student with a low budget and this is beyond disappointing. :(

Thank you for tanking the time guys.

If there's guarantee on that board I'd give it back to the vendor and let them fix it. If not open it up and show us the solder joints of that key.

If you don't want to go through the warranty exchange, open it up and resolder the switch. If that doesn't fix it, replace the switch.

The same thing happened to my backspace, I just desoldered and resoldered in a small wire and it now works fine.

Hey guys thank you so much for the responses.

Ok so for the guarantee, I bought it from Amazon and when I go to the return tab it says that I can't do so anymore. So I'm guessing it has not guarantee anymore?

And I'm also not a savvy when it comes to fixing hardcore nor I know how to resolder switches. But I'm willing to take any pictures and go through any process if it is affordable. I really really love this keyboard I'm using a rubber keyboard right now I just hate it :(

Again, thank you for tanking the time to help me out. It means a lot, this happened 3 days ago and I was just very upset.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Some QuickFire keyboards have weird problems because the case top and bottom are screwed together too tightly.

If your keyboard is out of warranty, you can try loosening the screws a little bit.

Thanks. I just wrote an email to Coolmaster. I might have a guarantee. If not I will try to open the keyboard.

Do you think it can be the cable? I already tried it in more of 1 computer so it's not the OS :/

Not likely to be the cable if only one switch is affected.

Either a defective switch, bad soldering, or a bad trace on the PCB.

(All of which are repairable, btw.)

If CoolerMaster can't repair it under warranty, and you aren't comfortable doing it yourself,  there are forum members who offer keyboard repair too:
