Any other keyboard typists have an interest that extends to typewriters? This guy does.

Crickets?

I'm interested in typewriters, but can't afford the trip across the Atlantic. So, maybe yeah, crickets.

Would love to see some photos.

I bought my ticket, but I may not even go due to other trips I may plan. TBD.

I bought a typo machine recently. Interesting to see the different layouts, mine doesn't have 1 or 0 keys. There are a few layouts with the numbers on a layer, funny how some of us are heading back in that direction.
It would be nice to see pics if you do go in the end.

Yea, most machines made before the 1950's did not have 1 keys. The lowercase "L" would function as the 1 key.

and lowercase "O" for zero.
I think they did this for portability reasons. Students and journalists and the like would use them.

Less keys=smaller size and less internal working parts. They could stuff more things in a smaller package.
Anyways, to my knowledge, most typewriters did not include "one" keys until the 1950s. I think the manufacturers and users did not seem it as a necessity.
