Snikrep's Custom Wooden Wrist Rest
So I have had my Quickfire Rapid for a couple of months now and I wanted to get a wrist rest for but didn't really want to buy one from the store.
I perused the threads here for ideas and found the works of The_Beast and tigersharkdude. This got me into the mood and I decided to make my own.
My Supplies
* Piece of Pine - 48" x 24" x 3/4"
* Gorilla wood glue
* Four metal clamps and Three plastic clamps
* Golden Oak Wood Stain
* Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2x Clear Coat
* Table saw, can cut angle
* electric hand sander, with 400 grit and 2000 grit (for finishing/wet sanding) sand paper
I started off cutting the wood down to size:
* One 10" x 14" for the base of the WR
* One 4.5" x 14" for the rest
I glued these together and clamped them together for a single unit, base and rest.

Since this is meant to be a build log, I will post more pics when I take them and update here with a new post.
Enjoy the start for now and as always questions are welcome.

As promised, I want to keep you guys in the loop with this little build I have going on here.
Below are a couple more pictures of the staining.
As a great piece of advice, don't just use whatever stain is in your garage. I used Minmax Golden Oak wood stain and I'm not too sure about the color.
It's not as dark as the pictures have it, it's quite a bit lighter.
So here is just the first couple of layers of stain and sanded with 400 grit in between each layer.

Tonight I will be doing the clear enamel and rest assured I will be putting a few layers of that on and wetsanding with 2000 grit paper.
I'll post more when I take those pics.

So I dropped the ball a little bit.
But I have changed my ways and I now present to you all the completed product.
This is my first, and I mean that it really is my first, attempt at something like this.
I don't normally do this sort of project but I love working with my hands on things like this.

I applied the clear coat/enamel and let it sit for 24 hours to cure.
I then wet sanded with 2000 grit sandpaper to get it nice and smooth and prepared for some polish.
I used some Meguiars Ultimate Polish (it comes in a reddish bottle) and buffed it out for a nice shine.
I hope that you all like it since this was my first attempt at this sort of thing.
