Title: HHKB Pro 2: DIP Switch Configurations
Post by: ozar on Mon, 27 April 2009, 11:20:08
Just curious about how you guys are configuring the DIP switches on your HHKB Pro 2 boards?

Mine is currently set with all switches OFF and that feels pretty good and natural, but is there some "must try" configuration that I'm missing?

Yes, my 87U is still set on the defaults, as well.  I haven't really studied the options for it all that much just yet.

The HHKB Pro 2 has six DIP switches vs the four switches for the 87U, and it allows you to do some pretty nifty things, but some of them are geared toward the Mac.

I have a couple on but I forget which ones! del as Bs and the other I think adds pgup etc. On the realforce I have ctr next to 'a' where it should be!

Yes, I had mine setup to make the Delete key into a Backspace key but have changed it to Delete again and think that might feel a bit more natural overall.

Just curious about something else... what finger are you guys using for the Fn key?  Are you all using the right pinky, or does some other finger work out better for you?

I've been using my right pinky.  I find it especially natural when using the arrow keys...I anchor my pinky and the other fingers fall into place pretty naturally.

I got my HHKB Pro 2 a couple of days ago and at the moment I have the following settings:

1: ON
2: OFF
(Enabling Windows keys, I don't really use them but I thought I may as well have one)
3: ON (Delete as BS)
4: ON (Left ◊ as Fn)
5: OFF
6: OFF

So, how are you liking that new board after a few days?

My first thought upon opening my own was... wow, that was a lot of money for this little thing - sure hope it's worth it!  :decision:

Of course, I now feel like it certainly is worth the money, so ordered a second one.

Well I was very excited when it arrived because I had wanted it for a long time but could never bring myself to pay the price, until I finally went for it.

When I opened the box I had a pleasant surprise how small it actually is. After typing on it, I knew I had made the right decision :biggrin1: I love it.

I run my HHKB Pro 2 with 2 up (for Macintosh mode) and the rest down. Since it's the only computer keyboard I own (except for that DSI fiasco) so I think you say I like it a lot.

My Realforce 86U got stupid when I'd have the dip switches anyway but down, so that's how I used it.

I was running mine with all switches in the OFF position, but have recently gone back to having switch 3 in the ON position to make the big Delete key into a Backspace once again.  I thought that keeping it as a Delete key felt better and more natural, but no longer feel that way.  Sometimes, I do wish the the smaller Delete key above it would work without the Fn key.
