I am not too sure it's actual glass but I have tried it. very good pad. somewhat fast but with good precision, unlike a lot of some more common cloth pads I've used.
it's a soft pad though, with a semi-hard top. so it's definitely not glass like Icemat. some type of plastic glass-like material that is bendable? not foldable though, it crumbles if you do that. :( that's how mine died.

Good to know. When its rolled up, how much space does it take up?

I never tried, they ship it in a flat envelope. not sure how much you can roll it without it crumbling. sorry. I hope someone else can answer that.

I have shiden kai mid in white for a few years. It's been my favorite mat and I highly recommend it. It's for me perfect balance between soft and hard with all the best attributes of both. I have never rolled mine, but I remember there was something about how to roll it without damage in the care instruction sheet... something about only roll it with top side out and only so tightly...

It is actual glass, just it is a very fine granulate that is bonded onto the fabric surface. Think similar process to sandpaper but with opposite goal of being smoother not abrasive.
