Over the years, it seems most manufacturers tend to have the click pressure on the light side. The weight of rested fingers should not be enough to engage the click. Sadly, many are way too light. Over the last 20 years, I usually mod my mice for slightly stiffer clicks. Perfect example, last night I bought the Logitech g502 (love it BTW) and the right click button is to weak. Resting my finger on it occasionally engages it.
So this is a simple, cheap solution that uses double sided foam tape that does a perfect job. It will work on mice that have a gap under the primary buttons. In the RC world, we call this tape "servo tape". Here is my favorite brand (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=000330796&I=LXFZN9&P=K) since it sticks the best.
Here's what you'll need:
Double sided foam (not gel) tape
scissors
X-acto blade (hobby knife)

This foam is inserted under the button. Some mice have a big gap (like this g502) and may need the foam tape to be doubled up.
1. If the gap is large, double up the foam. Cut 2 tiny strips (1/8" or so) and stick them together to double up the thickness. (It's important to put these 2 sides together so the oils in your hand that get transferred to the tape wont be an issue for this step.)

2. Leave one of the non-stick backing on, and stick the other to the blade.

3. Insert under the button. (If needed, lift up on the button to give you more clearance.)

If the button pressure isn't perfect, just use the blade and remove the tape, then repeat the above with a different sized piece of tape.
This foam tape doesn't deteriorate or change it's resistance. One application will last for years.

what about for lighter clicks on a kensington expert trackball? any ideas?

This technique relies on the ability to place the foam under a button. In the case of the kensington expert trackball, it looks like you'll have to open it up to access the space under the buttons.

And here I am... resolving this problem always by taking the mice apart and putting in actually decent Omron Japan or Cherry DG instead of whatever crap is in there. Even in case they already used a good one... then putting in a heavier. I know at least the DG have up to 140cN. I can't imagine many people would like something heavier than that.
