Title: Help, spilled a little bit of soda on my mech keybaord!
Post by: harrywang888 on Fri, 06 June 2014, 17:30:37
Hi about a week ago I was drinking some soda and while I was drinking I coughed and spilled a little bit of drops on my keyboard.  I cleaned it a little bit and all the keys worked fine however 1 of my keys feels all mushy now.  I keep cleaning the key and the switch with a q TIP but it will start feeling mushy after a couple of clicks.  I think some of the soda somehow got into the switch.  Is there any way I can fix this because it is very annoying.

If it's plate mount or if it has LED's, you'll have to desolder the switch to clean/replace it.

If it's pcb mount or if you can get to the tabs, you can open the switch housing and clean it from there.

is that the only way? It has only 1-2 LEDS.  It's a CM storm quickfire stealth.

ok

for that keyboard... you HAVE TO desolder to 100% fix the switch..

you can try xxxxxxx things from the outside..  Won't restore it to Original feel.. nearly impossible..

because there are so many tiny groves inside the switch.... where the sugary liquid will partially dry or even never dry..

Don't waste compressed air.. doesn't work..

This is a video which shows how to replace a switch  on a Razer, very few changes will be needed.

I spilled a few drops of coffee on my Ducky with MX blues.  One or two switches became sticky.

I totally mashed those keys for about a week, and after that they were fine - clicking normally.

You can try this for a few days, just keep pressing that key as much as you can.

At least it is only one switch.
