Well, there's a good chance you guys are 20 year olds....
Since I've revealed myself I'll vote a bit later.

I feel so old at 44.
I agree, if your keyboard is older than you, you are required to give it up. :)
technically i think the groupings should have been "20 to 29" etc instead of "21 to 30" because people usually group themselves as "in their twenties" or "in their thirties" and the former grouping style works for that. Not that its important. I'm on the border between decades so I was glad to be able to choose the lower group ;)

Anyone who gets this joke is WAY above the average Geekhacker age.

Yeah, if my statistics class recollection is correct then after a sample size of 30 we should be looking pretty gaussian. Which we are.
WIKIPEDIA, wish you had sat in front of me in probabiity. I might have passed that class!
Is an active member someone who posted at least once? Or someone who logged in for ex. last month?
My dad has a IBM Selectric Typewriter as his main computing device.Ah, sounds like he and xsphat should get along well then... better tell him to sign up for an account here and then let him vote in the age poll.
I've already analyzed everybody's true gender (http://bookblog.net/gender/genie.php)!
2) Old people don't vote (where's Xsphat and Bigpook - this is a local election)Show Image(http://www.funnypictures.net.au/images/lighting-a-cigarette-off-a-100-candle-funny-old-la.jpg)
We're just trying to get the above 30 numbers up, as of right now the poll is 58% under 30. A little younger than I expected getting into this. It's not like it would be terribly surprising. The proliferation of PCs (not to mention home computers before that) produced a number of computer-addicted youths back in the early to mid '90s or thereabouts, and chances are you'd still get to know a decent keyboard at the time. That's much of the 21-30 and 31-40 groups. Therefore I predict that we'll see the age profile shift over time.
But isn't old stuff always cool? It just depends on what time frame we are talking about.
I feel so old at 44.
pook, why do you need 3 model m mini's?
Hey Pook, I think you just took us "over 30s" over the top.
If you assume these midpoint ages (16, 25, 35, 45, 55) and run the numbers (sample size = 51) I get an average age of:
30.235
Which makes me feel CONSIDERABLY better.
Now watch another 16 year old come in and spoil the whole thing.
- Ripster
I don't. : )
I think its a neurotic obsession. But not in a bad way.
The model m mini is the epitome of keyboard design for me. Purely my opinion. All other designs
fall short when compared to it. Some come close, but there can be only one. In this case, its the model m mini.
One of my varied goals in life, is to get an NIB for each model year they were produced.
That could change at any time though. But as of now, not likely. It would be neat to have them all though.

so i take it they're not for sale? ;)
(I mean, the under 20 category just doesnt count - I mean come on, they're toddlers!)

I think statisticians often refer to 20-30yos as "cats," because at that age, age is all you can really pin them down with.
Wheres greywolf when you need him.
Oh no. Not now. I got both NIB's in the last 5 months. I will be holding on to them for awhile. They were such a pain to get in the first place that I won't be quick to part with them. The NIB's are just the sweetest keyboards.
well, its just as well. I just saw the selling prices of the last two m mini's on ebay, and O-M-G. I'd have to save up for this one, lol.
You know, you can get a regular model m with numpad for a good price. I think I saw a NIB go for under 75 recently. I would think most people would prefer the num pad versus the spacesaver.
Sigh, since no one else will admit it, I'm 56 and retired. Maybe keyboards are different for some of us old types. My first computer data input was via a rotary phone dial, in octal.
Yeah, we are. But we still got it.Show Image(http://nerdvana.freedomblogging.com/files/2008/06/mgs41.jpg)
Having a detached numpad makes sense to me. It allows you to get the mouse closer to the keyboard.
Back in the day, I had a HHKB lite and bought it for that very reason. I never liked having to reach past the numpad to get to the mouse. The ergonomics seemed out of whack to me.
I ended up putting the mouse on the left hand side of the keyboard to negate the issue. Of course, I just severely limited the type of mice I can use.
But I do have a fair collection of ambidextrous mice. I suppose though that since I mostly use numpad-less keyboards I could put the mouse back on the right hand side. But it turns out that having the mouse on the left side has its benefits. It allows me to use my right hand to manipulate the arrow keys and page up/down.
Not so much on the HHKB, but it works great on the filco tenless and model m mini.
I'm curious too but am too old and wise to vote first.

I think George's "long tail" vote is gonna keep those whippersnappers from ever sending it below 30 now.
Ozar, I think you did good. How many other polls here have that high a number?
The korean usually count using different way when they check their age. Usually, korean started with 1 age just after born, becuase Korean think the life of baby started from their mom's body. So korean is older then western people around 1 year old.

Nearly seventeen, and I have two 1391401's that are older than I am. One by three years, and one by only a few months.
You old people stop voting. Avg age went from 31 to 31.35 as N went from 77 to 103.
And I'd rather have a young head on old shoulders. Especially if the young head looked like Geekgirl and the shoulders are mine.
The keyboard, mouse, and monitor I am using right now are older than you. Hah!
I think if you have a keyboard that is older than you then you should be banned. Its just not right!
It is kind of weird knowing I'm typing on a keyboard older than me. And to think, it was sitting somewhere in a school basement, waiting, years, for my arrival and to pick it up.
How does a youngster become an IBM aficionado?
Do you know what the difference between an IBM and a Dell is?
The pricetag.
Oh, and Dell actually still makes PCs. I wonder if there's a correlation...
You guys need to listen to some new music. Life goes on after College.
... Average age is 30.56. Actually went down by a year.

I've had great experiences lately with my HP notebook and this awesome beast:
I don't really understand the nostalgia for obsolete hardware. Keyboards, ok, but old IBM computers?
If I want to type on a keyboard older than me, I've got to use something like this:Show Image(http://geekhack.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=10113&stc=1&d=1274289612)
Man, there are a lot of young punks here. It's disturbing to think that the majority of the people here grew up in an era of Windows dominance, after the infinite variety of unique and mysterious computers had already been crushed and wiped away - like dead bugs on the windshield of time.
(...did that make sense? Whatever. I'm too old to care.)
I just voted as well. I turn 31 this year, but not until November!
I should have found this forum sooner, it is nice not to be the oldest one around!
Ha, you're just jealous of my IBM computers.
Ha, you're just jealous of my IBM computers.Ehr, no. I for one prefer to slap my own label on a custom build.
I gave up buying desktops a long long time ago.
Ehr, no. I for one prefer to slap my own label on a custom build.
Actually, I'd like you to give me a list of those.
I'm guessing they're all support options.
I see nothing in that list which hasn't been available at one time or another, or probably currently available if you look hard enough, on hardware you could buy for a custom build.
For $300 xD
I guess you probably COULD make something remotely similar with custom building, but it would take a lot of time, searching for the right parts, etc. I like having it all prebuilt with a cool stripey IBM.
Since when was the IntelliStation a desktop?
ECC RAM, LED lights on mobo to detect certain problems accompanied by warning LED on front panel (DIMMs, fans, PCI cards etc), SCSI adatper, SAS adapter (with side rails), BTX (better than ATX), and can't think of anything else at the top of my head.
I do like how roomy they are and the vast multitude of ports.

My brother has an ASUS motherboard with such a feature.

What are girls?
If you are more mature than your cohort vote upwards.
Really? I'm pretty sure it's possible to be one. However I do understand if the confusion is overwhelming for you.
Old news. Read the thread. You're the third one to point this out.
Avg age at Geekhack is essentially unchanged at N=244. 29.71.
Although I have no evidence I suspect it's 14 at OCN.

Emma looks good in lavendar.I missed this post before giving a reference to Emma Bunton in a green dress in another thread.
I'm 38. Buffff, I'm getting old.
23 here. My girlfriend tells me that I'm a lot younger mentally.
Look at all the young punks here. I used to be a young punk myself. Then suddenly without warning, 20 years disappeared. It happened to me. It'll happen to you!
****, I just calculated and found that the first computer programs I wrote are now 29 years old.
This is not a good thing.
Being young physically and mature (not "old") mentally is much better. You get a much wider range of women that way. From twenty-somethings that are tired of "kids" to cougars that can speak to them like an adult but can bang like a twenty-something. It's really something to explore.
im skewing the average, I just turned 9 yesterday
I like turtles.
I have bigger plans.

N=481. Avg Age 28.2 (Anyone 30+ is officially Old and Obsolete at Geekhack).
This should be moved to the Polls Subforum.
I'm 22, hitting 23 early next year. Truth be told, I don't want to get any older. Aging can stop right here and I'd be perfectly happy, haha
I'm in better shape at 32 than I was at 23, and I'm a whole lot smarter and make a ****-ton more money. I wouldn't want to be any younger.
My GF (25 at the time) and I (30 at the time) got memberships at a gym. For new members, they give you an hour with a personal trainer to determine your "physical age." I had a physical age of 24, she had a physical age of 26. She was not happy.
23... here seriously >70?
I treat those like forum gamers saying they are a girl. Voice verification or it's a dude. And if she's willing to get on voice chat with some strange dude to prove it then I would be concerned about that type of personality.
This makes you average.I'm ok with this.
...The only problem is that there are adults that act like minors.
U like hentai little girl? How about Gladiator movies?I-it's not like I like you or anything... you just p-post in all the threads I like... b-baka
How is your frontal cortex developing?
Where is the rest of the old guys? I feel so all alone.
16 seems high.
