Title: Geek's Bucket List
Post by: sacratoy on Tue, 10 June 2014, 18:21:18
Stealing this topic from a thread I saw on another forum, because I think it's interesting.

Do you have a bucket list of nerdy/gamer/geeky/computer-y/keyboard-y stuff that you want to do during your life?

Personally, I'd like to chill with Rami from Vlambeer games, and make it out the Dreamhack Summer and Computex at some point.

What's your Geeky Bucket List?

I'd like to go to Wacken Open Air and Dreamhack.

I actually fulfilled one of my bucket list items when I played in an SC2 tournament and got third place :D.

Go to a multi day LAN - going Insomnia in August

Go back to Iceland around Fanfest again

Go watch The International (DOTA tournament)

Have a sweet media/gaming room with multiple PCs, servers whatever

Be able to programme a Raspberry Pi to help with said room.

Not sure if this is geeky enough, but I want to own a pair of Initial D arcade machines.

Always wanted to put together one of those kickass gaming rooms you see with all multi-monitor setups, enthusiast PCs, and racing chairs. Also not geeky but really want to go to Heavy Montreal (the lineup this year is ridiculous )

Not computer-related, but I want a straight-analog, all-tube stereo system to use for my vinyl LPs.

Oh oh oh, I want to own a Time Crisis and Taiko no Tatsujin arcade machine. And of course, an OG Metal Slug/Neo Geo cabinet.

I'll know I mad it in this mad world when I have a pinball machine of my own, and a false wall with a tasteful painting on it that leads to a secret room.

Live long enough to witness the first FTL space flight.

I don't believe mass of a certain size can pass those theoretical limits.

i.e. you just wished for unending life.

And now for something completely different...

Read Kalevala, Beowulf etc. No translations allowed.

A completely open-source, production-ready sleep tracking/alarm system that anyone can assemble for cheap by themselves.

Production-ready OpenEEG (http://openeeg.sourceforge.net/) usable to carry out a large-scale study of correspondence between brain activity and personality type (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGfhQTbcqmA) and possibly replace the wacky MBTI quizzes.

Pirate Party (or anyone with equivalent priorities) achieve a majority in both EP and national parliaments.

I'm not into going places anymore, unless mankind pushes some new frontiers.

One down, one to go. You're already half way there!

1) Buy a nice camera and go back to Japan for some street photography. I went in 2012 but had to leave early due to a bout of whooping cough!
2) Go to the US and attend Google IO + watch a ton of 49ers games while I'm there.

That's about it!

The current theoretical warp drive bends space time around the spacecraft, meaning the craft itself never exceeds the speed of light.

Of course, it's just theoretical, chances are it would never work in reality.

I'd like to meet some of the original Whiskey Media crew, before they were bought out by various other corporations and some of them were discontinued.  They all seemed like awesome guys to hang out with.

Not computer-related, but I want a straight-analog, all-tube stereo system to use for my vinyl LPs.

Same.  That's pretty easy with some money though.  ;)

I'm really liking these arcade cabinet bucket list items!

If I could, I'd love to have my own In The Groove and Pop 'n Music cabinets.

... So expensive... So massive....

I have accumulated over 20 keyboard projects. I am so screwed.

I also need to do various repairs around the house.

And take the kids to the science center (where there's lots of stuff for kids to play with) so that they will quit throwing the matroshka dolls around at home.

And I have vowed that the next time I sell anything to someone from Russia/Ukraine, I will not take payment. I'll ask them to send me a matroshka doll set instead.
