something's a little fishy about this one
-
Yep. I emailed it to Unicomp, let's see what they have to say.

Is "industrial" an official terminology, or just a colloquial description of the darker case line?

I'm pretty sure it's just the case, I've never seen any structural or internal differences, making this one worth as much as any other ssk

It's an official terminology and they were always the dark olive/grey.
The industrial keyboards shipped with the industrial hardware of the same color. The desktops which had hardened cases and extra filtering, the gearbox modular systems, etc. Industrial SSK's were often seen in racks.
This OP keyboard is not an industrial. Someone must have saw a true industrial listed and sold for $$$$ and decided to try to cash in either out of ignorance or outright trickery.

I think that's likely what's happening, but there is some chance it's actually what he says it is. Those front-printed blue keycaps only came on gray industrial Ms, correct? The shade of blue is different, but the fact he has them at all makes me think there could be some truth to the story that it replaced an older unit.

...everything about this board is wrong other than the blue keys and the bottom sticker (maybe.) The case badge/logo is from an earlier SSK (pre-90's non-industrial), the case color, the keycaps. The case is badly damaged on the back edge...
It's worth $80-$100 since it's so badly damaged. And that's if the seller is lucky.

Interesting keycaps. Never seen those before.

on ebay now http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=59817.new#new

So the one listed on ebay sold for $173 + shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321441089600
Lo and behold, turns out he has *another* one he's listed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221480527957
The blue keys are a little darker, date on the label is one day after the other one, but what's strange to me on both of them is - no ID/serial number.
I can't for the life of me find a Unicomp built IBM branded SSK with a label, but I'm certain Unicomp puts serial numbers on their boards today.

Sooo... somewhat unrelated, but any idea exactly which industrial thingy this (https://www.flickr.com/photos/13176014@N03/sets/72157644718739407/) is from? :(

Hmm, that's pretty awesome looking. Some kind of luggable I'm guessing. Off to see what I can find...
You found that on ebay? Can you point to the listing?

Sure: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111370044210
Took a bit of a calculated risk in acquiring it, but I honestly expected it to be something slightly more interesting - was hoping for one of those hyper rare F/M hybrids :p

Parak, unless you'd like to start a separate thread here, which I don't think is a bad idea, I'm going to respond over in your thread on DT about this board.
