Title: Best O rings for noise reduction?
Post by: DuckNorris on Tue, 17 June 2014, 17:53:08
Hey guys,

Now that I got my QFR Stealth I was in the market for some o rings to reduce the noise of my keyboard to be able to take it to work. I got lost looking through amazon at so many. I just care for sound reduction, which are the best at reducing sound? And I link would be appreciated XD . Thank you for your help!

o rings of any sort can help out a lot with bottom out noise

But they won't do anything about the distinctive "top out" noise that cherry keyboards get.

Depending on your co workers this may or may not be acceptable. I know in my workplace, a cherry brown KB was too loud (I don't bottom out) so I had to bring in a 30g topre.

Browns were too loud? Where do you work? In a library?  :p

Indeed, brown are pretty silent. Only thing i can tell is quieter are Matias switches.

It's that "top out" noise. Matias is dampened on both ends (top and bottom out) so it's much quieter.

30g topre is quieter as well.

My co-worker explained it to me once that he was just very picky. He types pretty loudly on his rubberdome.

Anyway, it's the top out noise that's loudest on cherry MX, and there's no good way to quiet it.

To actually answer the OP's question, o-rings or "soft landing pads" will help a lot if you bottom out. WASDkeyboards sells some that are nice, but you can certainly go elsewhere.
