It's a mousepad-pad... so yeah, it's useful for putting under mousepads. OBVI.
But for real the legit (non-VE) Artisans don't need it, they have a backing that will stick really well to your desk.

so even MORE control than an extra soft? Meh, I don't buy it. I love Artisan but it's pretty hypetastic and this is strikes me as a pretty useless meta-peripheral.

seconded, even though they almost got me with promises of a "very easy way to get thicker." :-\ :-X

I actually got this as a gift from a friend. My shiden xsoft L slides a bit while on it. I wish they would have made the surface work better with the bottom of their mouse pads, tbh its just another L mousepad .
