SO, DO YOU PREFER TO USE LASER PRINTERS OR INKJET PRINTERS? I PERSONALLY PREFER LASER PRINTERS, BUT I RUN AN INKJET PRINTER IN MY PERSONAL COMPUTER LABORATORY.

Are you serious? Not dot matrix?

Epson LQ-870

You'll have to go into the "OTHER" category.

I AM SERIOUS. THIS THREAD IS LIMITED TO INKJET VERSUS LASER. PUT DAISY WHEELS IN YOUR OWN THREAD, PUNK.

I have a laser pointer, does that count?

NO
-
Inkjet for convenience sake/not having to breathe the exhaust from laser, but laser printers for a more professional look.
-
I think the sole reason to choose an inkjet over a laser printer would be cost. Else, you'd get a laser. And even then, if you print frequently enough, the laser ends up being cost-beneficial as well.
-
Laser, especially if you're in a hurry.
-
Use whatever they got at work... Duhh.....(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/lol1-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862512)

Why does inkjet ink always have to melt when it gets wet?
-
Doesn't inkjet have better colour reproduction?
-
small laser for b&w is just affordable and awesome. $15 oem cartridge can print at least 1000 pages.
-

That's because the ink is water soluble. That's the main disadvantage of ink in general, I'd say.
-
I got a laser printer for $5 with a full thing of toner.
The automatic feed from the tray is broken, so I have to hand-load pages into the front.
My room-mate put over 1000 pages through it last semester.
-
Daisywheel for sure! Most Beautiful print quality!

NOT BAD FOR 5 BUCKS, ESPECIALLY WITH A FULL TONER CARTRIDGE. I ALWAYS LIKED THE PRINT QUALITY FROM LASER PRINTERS.
-
You've been snorting too much toner, troll

That's nothing!
I found an HP laser printer lying by the side of the road. Carried it home. I wouldn't say the toner was full, but it has sufficed for my printing needs for many years. Works perfectly. Cost: $0 :D
I also recently acquired a used Dell colour laser printer with a foreign magenta toner cartridge. THe gears don't mesh properly, so there is s loud grinding noise while it is printing. It also spews magenta toner all over the place. It would cost $70 to replace with a genuine Dell cartridge.
-
Laser. It's crisper and the print doesn't fade / run / smudge.

I agree! Also a lower cost per page. I think inkjet printers are nothing but a racket for the most part.

Awesome. The extent to which college kids will go to save money.
That said, I'm sad that most manufacturers won't produce parts. It would be a big savings if we could just buy parts for the parts that are broken.
-
I got my HP Color LaserJet 2550 as a gift from my brother. And I have enough NIB toner for it (thanks to my old highschool for throwing them all away) to last me a lifetime.
Best printer I've ever had. Only wish it had a NIC, then it'd be even better...

I thought most people here agreed that dye-sublimation was superior... ;)

And laser would be pad printed? :))

Goold old HP LaserJet 4M+, native PostScript with a network adapter. About the lowest price per page toner-wise of any printer ever made and you can send raw PostScript over the network directly to the printer's IP and it shall start printing (the level of "geekhackyness" of that one is huge).
This printer comes from an era when quality meant something. I see these kind of printers as the "IBM Model M" of printers: mines (I own several) are nearly 20 years old and still working fine.
And of course it displays "PC LOAD LETTER": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_LOAD_LETTER (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_LOAD_LETTER)
:D
-
I used to have two LaserJet 4M - one developed paper feed problems, and the other just stopped working.
Great printers though - I inherited them from work where they had had many years of heavy use without missing a beat!
-
Laser for sure! They are low cost for any used HP and most have Jetdirect Print servers built in making network and wireless printing really easy.
-
I would love a cheap all in one laser. But for the moment I'm stuck with an all in one inkjet that drinks ink like there's no tomorrow.
-
I wish I had read this thread. Just bought a Canon inkjet.
-
For me personally.
I would take whatever is cheapest to refill/ replace cartridge / toner.
-
I've had good luck with a brother multifunction inkjet. Replacement ink is very cheap.

Laser > Inkjet

Laser > Inkjet
RIGHT
-
Laser, printing without hearing the drums going thunk kuchunk kuchuck and the lights dimming just doesn't seem right.
Plus my old HP Deskjet 500c is possessed and randomly spits out windings...
-
Use your PADD pilot by Palm god damnit and stop wasting paper.
-
i would choose inkjet. the quality is better and the price on the ink is great.

Could you spare a standard issue Replicator or two?

My printer story is the same every couple of years: need to print something, plug in the printer, ink is now all dried up and empty, go to staples, I know I can't just buy black and I have to refill all four, cost of all four inks is more than new printer OR they don't even sell it anymore, buy new printer, repeat.
