You are like the digital equivalent of a hoarder.
You are like the digital equivalent of a hoarder.
Um... well.... what is the difference between a hoarder and a collector....
A hoarder is just some one who -more--indiscriminately-- keep things
a Collector, is someone who lets say, "curates",Show Image(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/cool-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862496)
You won't find any 1.5gb 1080p files in my collection... 1080p material starts at 16GBShow Image(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/embarrassed3-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862502)
i know ppl like you...they save every movie they watch, even if they absolutely hated it and would never watch it again. and they always want 1080p, no exceptions.

I will delete it (after a generous amount of time seeding ofc.).
Everyone is going to call me crazy, but I've never seen a huge difference between 720 and 1080. In fact, I probably couldn't tell you which is which unless they were side by side. Above 1080 I do see a noticeable difference from 720 though.

It depends on your screen and how far away you are from it. That said, I see if a graphic is off by one pixel on 1080p on a 23" screen (I have to do some UI design at uni and I tend to be a perfectionist with that stuff) and I can definitely tell a difference between 720p and 1080p, even if it's on a bigger screen and I'm a bit further away from it.
Why are you saving Linux isos? I used to do that with them on optical media, but lately I've realized there is no point in doing so. You can always download an iso of an older version if you need it. Many of the mirrors keep old version isos archived.
I'll rather pay a hundred bucks for what? 1-3 TB harddrive and download ****load of series than buy the actual DVDs. Pretty much any given show is like 10 bucks for a season. That being said, I'm content with the ****ty 200-350 MB an episode rips.
Movies I usually don't bother with.

sigh... Kids these days....
a complete netflix 90minute movie is anywhere from 3GB to 7GB
VS
16GB to 36GB on Bluray for the same movie..
The difference between nflix and Bluray is pretty large..

Because They won't have a streaming service capable of streaming Bluray quality movies for quite some time..
probably 20-30 years before that happens
What is the grand total in TB?
And what's your backup strategy?

And what's your backup strategy?
i have 15TB per machine on 3 machines..
no backup strategy because these mostly stay OFF..
There is a difference in quality.
It's not just resolution. Compression factors in, too.
Resolution can be more of a problem once you factor in screen size and distance from the screen.

Scary!
I too like to live dangerously.
backup is only necessary if the drives are always spinning

I only have a 120g hard drive. That's all. And after OS installed, this mean only 65g or so are free for real use. I won't say I never considered getting more space, but the only thing that changed is that I now delete the stuff I have watched instead of keeping it for no reason until I need space and delete it.
On average you are correct TP. In practice HDs fail unexpectedly all of the time. You can turn a brand new hard drive on and a head will fail, or motor, or controller, or actuator arm, etc. It happens all of the time.
If everyone pitched in $1 to tp4, he could get a 2TB drive, I got $1 on it :P
