Title: guy with the dyesub machine is selling dyesubs with side legends

$5 a pop. Compare to IMSTO at $2.25 GB price and $3 one off customs. But these have side printed legends (albeit pretty pointless ones, only describing what is on the top of the key)

Dude, if I liked/used cherry switches with any regularity I would totally get that Dreamcast cap.

He needs to get some blank ivory buckling spring caps at least. Maybe even PBT alps when Matias makes those available.

Some of the tops are neat, but the side labels on these are pretty cheesy.

That and I'm not keen on how the tops bleed onto the sides a little.

And isn't this the same person who was posting in here about home dyesub and was selling an APL set for like $500 (hyperbole, but it was stupid expensive).

same person, same etsy account. He kept raving about side print and how imsto doesn't have it, yet he wastes it on IMO really bad captions

i thought imsto was experimenting with sideprint with (say) those prototype spongebob caps.

not exactly sure, but I think those spongebobs in feng's GB were made by somebody called swiss studios or something

Swiss Studio is a new-found studio focusing on making dyesub keycaps. I'm helping them to distribute their product overseas. They just recently released their newest product --- SpongeBob SquarePants Dyesub keycaps.

They were, but many months before that GB and before anyone had even heard of them, imsto leaked a teaser of them

This is the topic, I believe.

I am wondering how much a dyesub machine costs.

It would be so awesome if in a year or two, dyesub printers become affordable aka under $1k.

I'm very welcome 'I do it' men! I wish to see many men's many works. I'd like to participate my experience.

My dye-sub machine itself is only $305. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/ST1520-3D-mini-sublimation-vacuum-printer-machine-heat-press-machine-for-i-phone-cases-C1-versionl/1691854811.html (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/ST1520-3D-mini-sublimation-vacuum-printer-machine-heat-press-machine-for-i-phone-cases-C1-versionl/1691854811.html)

My inkjet printer for dye-sub ink is office / home use 4-color model, under $100. An expert said that Epson's pigment model is appropriate.

3D dye-sub transfer film is $200 for 100 pcs at Aliexpress.

For sure, experiments and experience cost. The trial and error of the handmade jigs cost. Blank keycaps cost. But they don't make you bankrupt.

You can do it!

Guys with experience, please speak up! By sharing information on this site, we can figure out how to do our own dyesubs at an inexpensive price.

Looks like it might be possible to get an entire PBT set of custom dyesubs for under $50, not including the fixed cost of the machine? The technology is probably still too new to be completely reliable, but it's very promising.

I don’t understand why Unicomp makes such ugly legends for the specialty caps they’ve added.

Maybe someone with some design skill should offer to fix up the designs to match the original IBM ones. (Then again, I also think the IBM ones are pretty ugly.)

An opportunity to make some really cool keycaps, and nothing but awful designs. It looks like custom orders are possible though?

I write about my experience sometimes on this blog: http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/ (http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/)
Instruments (not current, before machine age): http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/2014/01/my-instruments.html (http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/2014/01/my-instruments.html)
Ideas and experience (not latest): http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/2014/01/some-thoughts.html (http://keycapdiy.blogspot.jp/2014/01/some-thoughts.html)

The price of keycaps comes from the quantity.

1. Supply of PBT blank keycaps. For example, SP's full set is $188.66 when the quantity is 5 sets. But when 200 sets, it becomes $39.6!

The secondary reason I use Keycool 87 is it. Banggood sells KC87's blank keycap only $17 for only 1 set. Recently I've found Unicomp sells Model M's full set for $30. I'm examining about it.

2. Investment for tools. Bigger 3D dye-sub machine makes work time shorter. With my tiny machine, I've used about 2 hour for a TKL set. Bigger machine will make it 20 min or less.

But bigger machine would raise more complex technical problem. It means the risk of wasting the big machine!

There are the problems of the quantity.

By the way, if you only wish the freedom of the design, I recommend UV-printing. Dye-sub cannot print white on black. This is a hard restriction.

I am totally on board for some custom dyesub buckling spring caps if it comes to fruition. I have a kishsaver that could use some side printed arrow and navigation legends, as well as a couple of custom fn keys!
