I have a used model M and when I tap a key quickly some of them make a springing noise when they come back up. Should I get new springs? If so, where? Is this normal?
EDIT: By springy noise I mean a high piched ringing "ping"

I'm not sure if this is a serious question or a joke. The mechanism used is a spring. So, it's going to sound like...a spring.

Ha, I meant that it makes a "ping" noise and want to know if there's any way I can change that.

Dental floss mod is probably your best bet.

Looks good, I'll try that out next time I go to the pharmacy and get that "fluffy" floss

This is the SINGLE most useful idea to modify a Model-M keyboard without ripping it all apart. Thank you to anyone for first mentioning this :thumb: .

The floss mod also dampens the click a bit, which I'm not crazy about. If there's one thing I like about Unicomp it's that they managed to alleviate the metallic ping without affecting the click.

For me, the floss mod is perfect and essential on the Model F, I have done all of mine without hesitation.
It is far less satisfying on the M, and I really prefer Ms without.
But that is probably because the F feels so much more "alive" than the M, and I am far more concerned with feel than sound.
