How can you approve a thread and then unapprove it without any reason why

If you're doing this because it seems like an auction, it is not.

There are two defining characteristics of auctions that this lacks. Using ebay as a comparision because it is the major auction site

1: If there is a BIN in an auction, then the BIN is cancelled when the first bid is placed. This is not. Offers can be thrown at any time, and anybody can pay the BIN when they want.

2: Auctions can be sniped. Sniping is not possible, because there is no set in stone millisecond to submit an offer. I have a end date only because I will be leaving on a trip soon and want to set a date so the offers come in faster. However, at any arbitrary time on Wednesday, I will see who's offer is best and take it. Its unsnipable.

What this is similar to:

Ebay BIN with best offer.

Why? Ebay BIN with best offer allows anybody at any point to pay the BIN. However, anybody can submit a offer before that. The only difference is I publicly display the offers, which ebay does not. However, ebay has a system where you can auto reject offers under a certain amount. You can edit that amount at any time. GH does not have that, thereby showing the current offer I have artificially created a lower bound of offers to auto reject.

If you still don't like it, let me know, and I will remove the public current best offers. I do not believe I have remotely wronged any other rule in the classifieds rules.

TL; DR, it was an auction, pwned.

Please elaborate on how exactly its an auction and not a BIN with best offer?

Pac did you try and have an auction on GH?

Yup, but it's ok, it totally wasn't one.

For example, I'm going to list my Octopink Clack Skull for sale at $500 or best offer with a set end date and the best offer going at that time.  It's totally okay though because there's a buy it now price.  You don't have to pay that price.  And who cares that people are bidding on it and I'm showing who's in the lead and winning it because it's totally not an auction because there's a set price anyone can win it with.

I guess it would depend on whether best offer meant best offer higher than the BIN, or best offer lower than the BIN.

If lower, that's not an auction.

But if higher, I would say it is.

If it was an auction, I could offer 1K. But if its like how you described, I can't.

I'm telling you right now, it was an auction as soon as you put a time limit on it while stating that you would take best offer and displayed the current best offer. The thread was approved before you blatantly decided to break the current classified rules. If you want to run an auction, there are other sites to do so on, this is not the place.

So if I remove the time limit, albeit arbitrary, its no longer an auction and you will approve it?

If it was an auction, I could offer 1K. But if its like how you described, I can't.

It's called a buyout auction (http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/36223) and it's still an auction whether you think it is or isn't.  WoW's auction house has them (http://www.wowwiki.com/Buyout).

Stop being pedantic, realize that that type of sale isn't wanted here, time limit or no, and deal with it.  If you want some sort of auction, list it on eBay.

Sorry I don't play WoW every day and as such don't know what a buyout auction is. I am only familiar with ebay auctions, as it is the place the new classifieds rules point to to have auctions, and ebay does not support a " buyout auction"

I've never played WoW in my life, but it's an example from one of the largest and most popular games in the world.

And eBay does offer a buyout auction of sorts with their best offer system; however, bids have a lifespan in their version and can also be rejected with no penalty to the seller.

And remember, there are many types of auctions out there, from incremental auctions (English) to Dutch auctions to sealed bid auctions to Vickrey auctions to penny auctions and so on.

We allow sales with a set price. OBO allows for negotiation, and does not inspire an auction setting (ex. This is what I want, but will take less) whereas what you are doing is just a flat out auction. BIN or not, it is not allowed here. If you remove mentions of time limit, current offers, and only list your asking price and BIN, I will approve the thread. And if I notice threadcrapping or any other mention of something that is not inquiring about a product or making an offer, it will be deleted.
