So since I'm going to Keycon this weekend, I thought this would be a fun topic. I should have a camera there to record/stream stuff so I can do reviews.
If you were going to a meetup, what board(s) would you wanna try out?
In the past I've really enjoyed playing with Korean customs and I still really enjoy those. I also like trying out stock keyboards since I don't get a chance to play with them much. And *anything* vintage. I think we've got some fun things this time like an IBM RT board and a beamspring. Oh and Carter is saying the Novatouch will be there. That should be interesting :D.

GON
old school boards
KMAC
LZ anything
korean stuffs

Man, I wish this was on the east coast. I'd love to try the NovaTouch...
Also a side-by-side of several BS boards, from Model Fs to Model Ms, Lexmarks, and Unicomps. And M2s/M15s.
Oh, and lubed Ergo-Clears. On any board.
-
55g topre, already owning a 45g topre board i would love to try its bigger brother to see if its worth the jump.
Also you crazy kids and your vintage blacks, i hear good things about them

There's a IBM side-by-side picture from the Indy Meetup earlier this year but I didn't have any video. I even tried a bolt modded rubber dome M. That was hilarious and awesome :D.
Man, I wish this was on the east coast.
If I were still on the East Coast I'd organize an east coast thing. Someone should still do that though.

Topre, BS, a 60% keyboard.
-
I would give alps another chance.
But the awesome keyboards to try are alps magnetic reed Burroughs opto mechanical and oki clicky gourd
-

I'd like to try out some stuff GON made, Topre 45g and 55g, vintage blacks, clears, and ergo-clears
-
Well Ive tried most MX and all Topre so I guess Buckling Spring and Alps! IBM SSK would be rad and a bunch of different alps!

I wish there was one in MN/WI! Chicago is a bit far but my wife loves it there so maybe could talk her into traveling that far..

Chicago is about 4.5 hours away, not too bad! Saint Louis is like, right in the middle tho!
-
well.. not really right in the middle, the western 'half' of the US is HUGE..
-
Other than the novatouch and whatever oddity HaaTa feels like showing us I'm down for whatever people feel like showing off.
I'll have, at the very least, my Type-S 55g in tow. Don't really want to lug the M15. Maybe my (once) NIB Omnikey?

They invented this sick new thing called a plane. Just FYI. Please use them and continue paying my paychecks. ;)

Are you bringing the computer too? And I wanna see the M15 :(.
-
Selectric, Smith-Corona electric, teletypes, punch card -- well, punchers. VT100's.
I would like to see if the old stuff really lives up to it's reputation.

At most meetups I've been there, there hasn't been much in the way of selectrics, etc unfortunately. First time I saw a typewriter at a GH meetup was in Indy. FWIW, I had three selectrics at my apartment at one point and they were so cool :D.

I'll bring the VT220 and the G80-1306 if I can get a ride, otherwise that's a bit much to lug to BART. It would be sweet though ;)
Same for the M15, if I can figure out some sort of transport for it I'll separate the halves and bubble wrap it.

I think there's at least two people in the Keycon thread offering rides.

I was just going to try and figure it out on Friday /OT
I'm trying to think if there is anything else I have to bring... OH, trackballs, I packed a bunch of input devices into a box already, incuding DT225, CST Ltrac, Slim Blade, some weird mice. I can bring a zowie/ artisan if anyone is really interesting in those as well.
-
I would mostly like to try out the ice cream, the cheese, and to a lesser extent the shoes. You say there is also keyboards?

I probably won't be able to go anywhere that involves the cost of plane tickets.. my wife does travel all the damn time for work tho. :p

I'll see if I can convince HaaTa to bring one of his three selectrics. I know the one I gave him still works. It's my fav. keyboard.
Forget the VT100, vintage keytronic is decent but nothing special. It's not even that old. watch out for sperry rand / univac stuff. instead.
The teletype keyboard might make an appearance, but the teletype 028 will likely stay here. It's no more exciting than a selectric anyway.
It really depends on what we can fit in ron's van. In the 1960's and early 1970's most keyboards weren't too reliable, but the reliability really started in the early - mid 1970's with IBM beamsprings and especially honeywell hall effect and univac stuff. Then as we all know, reliability started dropping again in the 1980's with the model M, the proliferation of keytronic, stackpole / hitek, and the rise of the rubber dome.
I probably won't be able to go anywhere that involves the cost of plane tickets.. my wife does travel all the damn time for work tho. :p
have her cash in some flier miles.
I would love to try out:
Olivetti RD
Should-a told me earlier. I have a NIB one that is particularly nice.

Unless I should anticipate issues taking a steel keyboard in a carry on (will that cause issues at security?? ), I will have mine there, so that's one. And I think CPT was considering taking his. ;)

Last time I flew with my IBM 4704 keyboards, they pulled my luggage out after the X-ray and had to open it. She looks in, sees a bunch of old keyboards, shoots me an "are-you-serious" look and tells me to put the computer items in a separate box next time.
-
HHKB Pro. I would absolutely love to try that board, and a noppo choc mini
-
Topre switches

I've flown with my KMAC and Epsilon in my carry-on luggage before. No problems.

:thumb: Great to hear. Ain't no way I'm puttin' 'em in checked luggage. Plus this'll be much quicker. Thanks for the info CPT and dorkvader!
-
for what it's worth, I put all my keyboards in checked luggage this time around.
I wrapped them all up in a huge blanket for safety. They were all unharmed.

Meh, I've had so-so experience with checked luggage. :-\ Plus, I really don't need that much extra stuff (clothes, etc.) so I'll probably just do a backpack. :thumb: This will be faster too! And no chance of lost luggage.
-
I'd really like to try BS, 55g Topre and any modded MX switch with high actuation force.
-
Would love to get hands on with anything vintage (capacitive BS/reed/leafspring/etc...).
Seeing and feeling some of the Korean customs would be cool as well.
Lifting Photeks custom case to feel how truly heavy it is.
Seeing all the different clacks/bots/nubs/binges/etc in person to really "see" all the different colors.
Feeling the different types of alps switches back to back for comparison.
Now, since you will be doing some interviews, RabRhee brought up a good one - shoes.
-
There are two: 55g RealForce and an actually bolt-modded Model M or SSK.
