Title: need some advice: what's the difference between stabs
Post by: berserkfan on Mon, 14 July 2014, 08:19:08
could anyone please tell me the difference between cherry plate mounted and pcb mounted stabilizers? So far I have sold several pcb mounted stabs but I have honestly no idea what keyboards or plates can take PCB mounted Cherry stabs. Does a Phantom plate use only plate mounted stabs?

Where can I get suitable stabs for a phantom?

Plate mount stabs have a slot in the housings for mounting to the plate. PCB mount stabs don't have that slot, but have little tabs on the bottom which attach to the PCB. It all depends on the PCB whether it will accept PCB mount stabilizers. And the same goes for the plate with plate mount stabilizers. A Phantom does not support PCB mount stabilizers at all, so you will have to use plate mount stabilizers.

You can get plate mount Cherry stabs online from Mouser, Digi-Key, Online-Components, etc. The wires from your PCB mount stabilizers will work fine with the plate mount stab inserts. You can get Costar (plate mount) stabs from WASDkeyboards. Either style should work fine with any Phantom plate.
