Hello! This is my first time ever looking into mechanical keyboards and I was wondering how/where I can test cherry mx switches. The only thing I've heard of are the sampler kits, but they don't seem great because you only get one of each switch so it would be much different than actually typing on a keyboard with that switch. So, any stores or anything that would have mechanical keyboards to test? Office depot only has mechanical keyboards in their "online store" and I called best buy and they don't have any on display.

I've seen mechanical keyboards on display at Best Buy but not in the regular "keyboard/mouse" area. Further back is the gaming area where they had gaming consoles, keyboards, mice, mousepads, etc. Not a lot of keyboards on display - I think they had something with browns & one with blues.
Perhaps the person you talked to didn't know about this or, more likely, didn't know what a mechanical keyboard is.
Anyway, at least some Best Buy stores have a few.

Do you have a microcenter near you? I *think* they have select mechanical keyboards for sale.

Where do you live?

Also, if you are near any gaming conventions, Coolermaster sometimes show up with reps & a display in the lobby where you can try all the layouts & switches. They will even let the registered gamers take one inside to the competition & test drive it for an hour or so. At least that happens here at PDXLAN.

They do mostly Ducky. The one near me had Ducky zeros with reds, black, blues and browns.

I found one around 30 min away that I convinced my dad to take me to. are you sure they have keyboards on display that I can actually test out?

No I'm not..I only know the one that's near me. I don't know if they're all the same. Mine doesn't actually have any on display but you can open the boxes and try them. Pretty sure you can check what they have in stock online by store.
