Sometimes I can't understand why Apple hasn't gone mech, given all the hipsters that use their products.

I have one from the G4 Cube, and it is certainly membrane, but I do not know about the G3. Looks like it though.

It might fly for Matias switches especially with only two variants - not sure if Cherry is up to the task.

Or given how much they charge for their products.

The last keyboard from Apple that had mechanical switches was the Apple Extended Keyboard II (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Apple_Extended_Keyboard_II). Production ceased in 1994.

Well, Cherry has a hard enough time keeping with demand now.....Apple would blow the company to ****.

You forget Apple's commitment to form over function design philosophy. Remember that "worst keyboard" thread? The consensus was that Apple's aluminum keyboard is the worst that most people ever used. That keyboard is in the same price bracket as a QFR

G3 & G4 keyboards feel pretty good to me with a softer force curve that drops all of a sudden when actuated.
Definitely not a bad membrane keyboard imho; if I was forced to use one, I would preferbly use either of these.
Also, the uni-"foot" that swings from the front of the keyboard to the back to prop it up is a pretty neat and distinctive design for the time and still is.

The G5 keyboard on the other hand was absolutely horrendous and a pain to clean when stuff works its way below to the clear bottom casing to contrast conveniently with the white inner casing.

Although I didn't mind the Apple aluminium keyboard, the one I had at work was the only keyboard that has ever repeatedly given me little electric shocks (static discharge).
