Hi! I just received a new majestouch from elitekeyboards and so far I am digging it. However I have noticed that the spacebar seems to be a little bit "looser" and noisier than the other keys. I also seem to be hitting spaces when my thumb is just resting on it.
Is it possible that the key just needs to be reseated, or is this normal? If I tap on the top of the spacebar on the left side, it has no give (I guess this is where the switch is located.) If I tap on the right side of the space bar, it has some bounciness to it and rattles a little bit. My unicomp spacesaver doesn't have this issue.
How hard is it to reseat the space bar?

It sound like it just needs to be reseated. There is a thread about reseating larger keys on the Majestouch, but I can't remember what is was called. I would also contact user majestouch to see what you might need to do to fix it.

I think the key might be normal, tapping gently on other wide keys sort of make the same noise, I guess it is more pronounced on the longer space bar. Ripster, would you say that the realforce is more or less tactile than the filco?
I like the easy press and fluid nature but miss the click-threshold of the unicomp. I find myself hitting the space bar by accident because there is very little resistance at the activation point. I don't think blue cherries would make it any better (just noisier.)
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks - have seen good and bad reviews of every keyboard, will probably end up trying them all!

Hi shremaster,
The left side of the space bar is firm and right side is a bit loose on every FILCO I've ever touched, so I would say this is normal, though there may be some tolerance error from board to board. The exact reason why is not known to me, but I do know this behavior is consistent. I don't think that reseating the key will make much difference, not to mention the spacebar is the most difficult key to slide back into the clips in the manner instructed in the thread ripster linked - and this may be the reason why Majestouch spacebars are consistently manufactured a bit looser on one side.
If you feel it is unacceptable, then please contact support@elitekeyboards.com for warranty service.

I tend to beat the crap out of the spacebar, so I never noticed. When I checked the Filco and the ABS I have here at the office, I still couldn't feel any difference even if I was more gentle.

Interestingly my current rubber dome keyboard has a similar behavior. If I tap lightly on the right side of the spacebar I get a low pitched sound wheras if I do the same on the left I get a high pitched sound. The left also seems to be slightly looser. I wonder if it's a general design feature to do with the space bar stabiliser?

Same here, I notice the exact same symptoms as described above by Majestouch. However it does not bother me at all. If you tap the right shift key you will probably notice the same behavior? Mine is stiff on the left, rattling and lose on the right. I guess this just how these bigger keys are.
However I never did notice any accidental spaces by leaving my thumb on the spacebar.
