Title: Topre users!
Post by: Fragil1ty on Fri, 25 July 2014, 00:27:56
What do you use your Topre board for?

Are you a gamer? are you a developer of sorts? Are you a typist? e.g. Lots of data-input? Or do you simply just use it for general use and what not, I would love to know!

All of the above. Excepting maybe data-input. I don't type for hours on end, but I do enjoy typing and usually take advantage of any excuse I can muster to do more of it. :)

Yeah I'm the same thus far, only had it for about a week and what not, loving it so far though. I am missing my Choc mini a little bit, but I guess that comes with the territory really. Lol.

I use my HHKB at home for general use (emails, word processing), gaming (mostly FPS), programming, posting on GH.

It's a shame there is no feedback from the keyboards so GH can log which keyboard you used for which post :))

I use mine for general use, writing papers for school, and playing games like sc2, dota, and of course typeracer!

Programming, typing comments, gaming when I'm not a tryhard. When I'm a tryhard, topre switch sucks for fps games. ADAD feels kinda sticky compared to reds.

My Topre is in the storage now (been testing out an MX board, but now I'm thinking of switching back to Topre), but when I used it, it was for general purpose. General web-browsing, chatting, and of course the occasional game here and there (at the time, Dota 2 and Crysis 3).

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about it for gaming?

I tried the hhkb, traded with a friend for 2 or 3 weeks or so, and i have to say it's not real good for gaming.

- CTRL at caps totally fcks up CS:GO Gameplay.
- Topre don't feel as good as MX to play IMO (Dense feeling, it doesn't feel like dropping until actuation is reached).
- Caps feel weird when tryna combo noobs on SF.
- Arrow keys are totally unaccessible to most games, unlike the Poker II where you can FN + Space and it permabinds that arrow keys to WASD, i did not find a workarround for hard-coded-controls games.

I just don't think topre feel very good for gaming, with all the resistance at the beginning of the key press and then the total collapse once the force is met. In a gaming context it just feels a little clunky to me, especially considering my preferred gaming switch is reds, which are way lighter. Also, I use a poker with a tex case for gaming and I really like the low profile for that purpose.

I'm pretty much the same for gaming at the moment, I don't enjoy it for gaming as I've come from a heavy MX Cherry Red background, so it doesn't feel nearly as good for gaming to be honest, but I'm going to stick with it and what not, hope it improves over time and what not.

I think one of the main problems is the way that the key feels and the slight bump and so on, i've never really been a huge fan of bumpy keyboards, e.g. blues/browns.

Bought mine just so I could comment on Topre threads without talking out my ass like some people ;)

Bring it to work one week every month.  Work in Finance.  Have gamed on it but much much prefer other switches.

Hhkb is the daily driver and my work horse. For me it's more than just a keyboard--it's extension of my main tool, the PC. The hhkb doesn't ask for anything and has a great minimalistic no-frills look. When I'm working, I don't think about typing because I am simply already doing.

The hhkb just is and always will be.

I do general computer use & gaming with my topre boards. I really don't like topre for gaming, so I'm planning on getting some MX board for that in the near future. My HHKB also travels to to school with me.

Primarily typing, but also for pretty much everything.

My HHKB is usually parked at my desk at work where during a typical day I write around 40-60 emails on it, several pages of work-related documents and of course lines and lines of Facebook chat. Some of that latter may or may not be work-related. Topre is a typist's dream. You can get such a consistent flow with the switch and the thock-thock sound, it's almost nirvana-like.

I'm strongly of the opinion that Topre is no good for any high-APM game, but it's great for everything else.

Writing and programming. I guess I could use it for gaming, but most games I play nowadays I just use a controller for. Actually, I do use it to play Binding of Isaac. But that's pretty much it.

I mainly use my normal Topres for coding/writing/etc ...

For gaming though, short throw Topres are where they are at, it excels at high APM games and honestly they feel the closest thing to high activation force microswitches that I've ever tried.

Any chance you can make a typing video or sound recording of the Topre HE0100? I don't believe there are any online.

I actually made a video 2 years ago showing that. Here it is:
