Something I did at work for my Powershot S5 IS:

More pics: 1 (http://soulhunters-crappy-website.com/data/Ring_A2.jpg), 2 (http://soulhunters-crappy-website.com/data/Ring_A1.jpg), 3 (http://soulhunters-crappy-website.com/data/Ring_A3.jpg)
It`s a LED Ring I made to take macro pictures etc...
Its made of aluminum (lathed) and has 16 white "wide angle" LEDs (iirc ~2000mcd per LED).
I also made a rail with power supply (the silver box on the right) which includes 4x AAA akkus and a ON/OFF switch.

Wow, came out nice. You must have access to some serious metalworking tools at your work.
Yes, I work as mechanic/machine-operator/more and have access to lathes, milling machines, column drills, etc.
And my boss allows me to do some private work when I have nothing else to do. :)
Reminds me of this wild use of Nikon Macro flashes...
Woah...
Thats no more a ring-flash, its a flash-ring, lol!
