GON has asked me run an interest check for a PCB and PLATE combo for KMACs.
It would be ~$105 for a PCB and CNC machined PLATE combo for KMACs.
The PCB will be green.
The PLATE will be universal, you can create any layout that the PCB supports! That means ISO, split backspace, short shifts, 1.5x or 1.25x.
The PLATE is required for the PCB to fit inside a KMAC.
The PLATE will be anodized in Glare or Non-Glare in any color that gon provides, however we all have to agree on ONE color.
We can add another plate color at 40 orders, as in: the first 40 plates could be silver, and the next ~40 (or less) could be pink.
Please reply if your interested. :)
Also, [CTRL]ALT will probably run this if we meet MOQ.
-
OOOOHH. Very interested. Would gon charge extra for hard anodizing for colours like grey or black like he does when he hard anodizes keyboard cases?
I know his grey and silver colours are very nice and would suit most keyboards.
-
Does the plate allow switch top removal?

Does the plate allow switch top removal?
If the plates are like gon's plates that he sells on his website, you won't be able to remove the switch tops. :(

Colors and hard anodizing will not be available for this. You may choose no anodizing so you can do it locally, but the price will remain the same.
Does the plate allow switch top removal?
The plate will not have notches for easy switch removal.
Also updated OP.
Come on everyone, turn your KMACs into ISO KMACS!
-
Very interested.
-
This plate supports mounting on top frame, right?
The original KMAC plate supports both bottom and top mounting.
I am in for one, strongly suggest the classic red color, semi-glare would be best. ;D

This plate will only support mounting on the bottom for KMAC 1 and 2 compatibility.
I also think red is good choice.

Interested

Whoa.. Just wanted to say, this is awesome! I had a KMAC Happy before, but ISO would be legit..
-
AWESOME idea!
-
Well the moq for this is a bit higher. I'll look into the details and let everyone know.
-
Will this work on a KMAC 2? if so I'm interested.

It will.

Curious why anyone would make a custom plate without the ability to remove switch tops. Is there a negative side of doing that?

Cost of the extra cuts maybe and I've heard a few people say they think the cutouts aren't as stable.

I don't really modify my keyboard after its built. But I think its because you can remove the top housing of the switch when you pull some caps off.
The switches are a really snug with gons design and makes the switch/keyboard feel very solid. I don't have any plates that have the ability to remove the switch tops or I would try to compare it. I wouldn't be surprised if it made no noticeable difference though.
-
interested :) hope the plate could be red or purple

This too!

They will more than likely be red, purple, or silver.
The ideal moq is 50, but if we are close I'm sure we can make it happen.
-
I see thanks for the info about cut outs.
-
But Cody didn't you just sell your Kmac?!
Where do the rest of us get beautiful Kmacs from? :'(

I did... so I can pay for the Viper. I also really can't stand blacks and didn't want to tear it apart.
You can get a kmac from kbdmod.com :)

Wow somehow I actually didn't know this.
When I have money again I guess I'll be on it. :P

I would take one set. I'm assuming the KMAC LE has no difference in the plate mounting than the 1 or 2.

Interested in a purple or red if it fits on a LE.
-
It should work with any kmac, but bottom mount only.
-
interested....what parts do we have to source ourselves? Do diodes come pre-soldered? And where exactly can we get kmac case?
-
Any update for this IC? Do we have enough interest?

Yes!
I am working out how to run the GB, but we will need at least 10 orders of the pcb/plate combo.
PCB will be green.
This is a STEAL for kmac owners... :D
-
I'm in for at least one set.
-
Yes, I'm interested as long as the plate will be compatible with a KMAC LE. :)
-
AFAIK, the holes for the plate are in different positions from the KMAC 1/LE to the 1.2/2. Are you sure they'll fit all?
-
interested if it will fit kmac 2 ;)

At first, I thought there would be quite many users interested. So I planned to make pairing PolyCarbonate Plate too.
But the qty is so small... that means no room for investing to sample plates and for negotiating the cost with the factory...
In conclusion, I decided to make it a small and limitted GB that PCB only will be offered.
User should re-assemble his KMAC to apply NerD TKL PCB. And have to mod a little bit to his plate(Spacebar stabilizer holes, it's very easy and simple.)
The Spec of NerD for KMAC will be exactly the same as regular NerD TKL Ver2.0.
-
If we want ISO the mod isn't so little

First offer was, "I will let KMAC users use ISO Layouts /w Full Function of NerD Controller". But interested members were only about 10...
-
I'll be interested for 2 plates and 2 pcbs if this follows through!
-
Would I be able to use the PCB with my original KMAC plate? I'd really appreciate the LED options on the Nerd. So much more that what the original PCB had.

Of course, you can use Full In-Switch Backlight LEDs. ;)

If we can't get plates, I'm down for 2 PCBs :D.

If we can't get plates, I'm down for 2 PCBs :D.
I'm considering to make PolyCarbonate /w Diffuse Finish Plate for KMAC1(compatible to KMAC2).
With this plate, you can use all the supported layouts of NerD TKL including ISO. ;)
The Plate will be 2T and CNC-Machined /w Diffuse Finish
Pricing will be about $50~$55 for a Plate.
This plate will maximize On-PCB Backlight LEDs of NerD TKL 2.0 for KMAC.

I would buy at least one of both, maybe two to help you make it worth your while.
Has this been posted on Deskthority? Not sure how many over there would buy it but any little bit would help.

I could post it on Deskthority, I did it for NerD60 Black PCB

Thank you Daniel. ;)

Is it just for the Kmac TKL or Kmac mini also ?
Thanks
Only for KMAC TKL. ;)

Get on it guys. GB thread will be up soon but this is the order link

If I got this correct...
We can get a different pcb (the nerd), but we cant get a plate.
We can get a polycarbonate plate.
Will this polycarbonate plate fit in the kmac's aluminum housing?

ya just no alu plate

Any chance an uncultured swine such as myself could get the plate and pcb assembled with switches through GON?

Would it be possible to just have the resistors soldered on (of course for an additional cost)? Need this done for 2 PCBs!

Of course, I will add soldering options products too. ;)

I'm designing a 1.5T Polycarb multi-layout Plate for KMAC. ;)
You guys will be able to use ISO layout with your KMACs. If this GB is successful.
-
We've got an approval for this GB!
Now I'm taking orders

Cost is not an issue. That makes no difference. ;)

Any chance of an alu plate? I just don't really dig PC as a case material.

In that case, the plate should be 2T /w CNC-machining... that means cost will increase. I think it should be about $55 for 2T Plate.
If the plate does not support multi-layout including ISO, 1.5T will do but, in case it should support all layouts in a single plate design, 2T design is needed = cost increase.
If you do want AL 2T Plate, I will make it. But the Plate will have out line of KMAC1 Plate for compatibility with KMAC1/1.2/2.
Let me know.
