Hi !
I need your help. Cant decide which keyboard to choose for Linux. I have Manjaro Linux.
The keyboards has to be illuminated
Duck shine 3
Corsair vengence K70
or something else for linux
What keyboard do you use and does it work on linux ?
-
As far as I know there shouldn't be any compatibility problems with either of these keyboards on linux. Out of those two I would probably get the Ducky Shine 3. It's a solid board. I wouldn't get the K70 personally as there have been some quality control complaints and Corsair's support is meh in my opinion. It's a shame too because they're nice looking boards.

The k70 has issues with having keycap sets as it uses a very non standard bottom row. If you plan on getting some fancy keycap sets, then you are going to have a hell of a time finding a spacebar that fits.

Thank you for your explanation and comments. What do you think about the Roccat Ryos mk pro keyboard ? I am asking because they have unofficial linux support for their products.
So currently I have four keyboards that I like:
Ducky Shine 3 165€
+no driver needed
+has audio volume keys
-doesnt have usb or and audio output
-CAPS_NUM-SCROLL lock led problmes in linux
-no official/unofficial support for linux
Corsair vengence K70 147€
+nodriver
+has usb
+has voume wheel thta looks relay cool
-has volume wheel that doesn work in linux
-has no audio output
-CAPS_NUM-SCROLL lock led problmes in linux
Corsair vengence K95 161€
pretty much the same problems in linux as K70
+G keys work with some fix in linux, I think makros dont work
-no offical support for linux
Roccat ryos mk pro 165€+shipping cost from foreign county
+has unofficial drivers for linux
+has usb output
+has audio output
+has volume control keys
-its huge
-cant remove wrist pad
-I dont need so many lightning effect
But I dont know anything about the quality/performance about these products. These are all expensive keyboards.
Also I want the red key switches and all these keyboards come with red switches. I want reds because I heard that these are the quiet switches and good for gaming and for typeing.
What do you think about the quality of these products ? And did anyone try his keyboard in linux if so can you please write which keyboard product are you using ?
Also my current keyboard is Cherry G83 membrane keyboard, will I feel the difference when I buy a machanical ? Is the mechanical realy that good ?

My Ducky Shine 3 is working well with Linux Mint 17. But right: Scroll lock led doesn't shine but I never noticed that since I don't use it.
Also it's qualitywise the best board out of those you named.
I would not recommend the Roccat Ryos because of the fancy design that easily attracts fingerprints. It's also not standard layout, so you won't get other keycaps for that board, at least not easily. And for the third, i'm pretty sure that it doesn't have the build quality of some other 160 bucks boards.

Hearing your Ducky Shine works on Linux makes me very happy :), also thank you for the information about the quality and your opinion for ryos mk pro.

My shine has no issues on linux. :D

:) Cool. What distribution of Linux are you using ? So if I understand you correctly you didt have any issues from the start or did you found a fix for the leds --> kbd_mode -u ?

I use Ubuntu...
Haven't tried switching modes.
It doesn't need drivers. You go to their website and flash the firmware.

One more side quiestion. When you flash the firmware do you do it in Windows (dual boot) or with WINE or with windows installed in virtualbox (or any other virtual machine) ? Because its an EXE file.

I did it within windows.

FWIW I have had caps lock LED problems on Linux (Ubuntu) with every keyboard I have used.
-
I'll boot into ubuntu and check.
[Edit]
Caps works, and so does num lock :p
All modes work. Shine 3 master race!

I just noticed :) that even on my old G83 Cherry the Scroll lock doesnt work. I m not using scroll lock at all. Ok so thats ok if the Scrool lock led doesnt work. I m ok with that.

I don't think scroll lock is supposed to work?

I will use Manjaro Linux, actualy I m using it right now. I think the broken led for scroll lock will not bother me much because I dont use Scroll lock at all. There is a fix for the Scroll lock on internet. Maybe I ll try and fix it just for fun. http://linuxtechie.wordpress.com/2008/04/07/getting-scroll-lock-to-work-in-ubuntu/ (http://linuxtechie.wordpress.com/2008/04/07/getting-scroll-lock-to-work-in-ubuntu/)

Oh thanks lol. I've never used scroll lock lol. So it never really occurred to me that the LED didn't work lol.
