Hey geek hack forum! this is in fact my first post on this forum although I have been reading around for while. During that reading I have come across a lot of separate opinions, and still my mind is not set. I am looking to start a bit of a keyboard collection. So far I have a Quickfire Rapid Stealth with cherry mx browns, and my current daily driver, my Realforce 104UB. What I need is a good place to begin to expand my collection. I have considered purchasing an IBM model M or more compact boards being that my Realforce is rather large and the quickfire is not good enough to put in the place of the 104UB. I have a $300 budget and I am open to crossing that boundary a bit but not by much, I would also be interested in DIY boards as long as you can keep it under the 300 dollar mark. Thanks in advance!

EDIT I should of mentioned that I prefer lighter switches, so no greens or blacks, though i would be interested to hear your opinions on ergo clears!

i3oilermaker is selling an SSK in the classifieds section if you are interested in that. It's sub $300. And looks incredible.

I hear great things about GON's. (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/). He was pretty easy to get a hold of and talk to when I tried a few months ago.
After that there's the Duck Viper/Eagle group buy that's going on. I'd get in but I just ordered a few 60%'s.

More compact boards ftw. Like Defect mentioned, GON is awesome. Was a pleasure to deal with and the quality of his work is great. Very patient, as well. His new Nerd stuff is real nice.

Yeah I like his keyboards, they look great but the only one I could really afford is the GON skinny, I feel I wouldn't be getting my moneys worth for something so minimalist.

I had a GON Skinny as well as some of his other boards and I didn't feel like I wasn't getting my money's worth honestly. For me, though, I wanted it because it was so minimal. I regret selling it every time I think about it.
You can always grab a 60% PCB and hunt for a case (and plate) that you like to really get something you want. That's actually a pretty fun process.

Matias makes some nice 75% boards. I'm not sure how compact you were thinking. Plus you could try another type of switch!
