could you include a set of keys for the red keys like esc or enter?

Feels pretty generic, just an inverted Dolch with some red accents. Not that that is inherently a bad thing, but you will probably have trouble getting people to pick it up. Also, I would add more contrast to the legends. Particularly on the red keys. The text on them is really painful to read.

I've seen a bunch of ICs lately where people are highlighting the windows keys. Those are the last ones I would want sticking out. :p

OK agreed on it being too generic!
How about something GH inspired? Or should I gracefully leave this to the pros  :-X

The last set in the list is quite nice. I wouldn't buy it since I have enough sets from SP now, but I do like the colourway.

Happy with this being DSA or has there been too many DSA sets lately? Let me know if you think anything else needs tweaking and then I'll approach SP.

Nice colour-way you've got  :thumb: .

Should I make the legends bigger for those in their dotage?  :p
With this being geekhack inspired its really up to the community how its going to end up looking so please keep the feedback coming if you're interested.

Nostalgia is an awesome set, I only discovered it recently after having a good browse on [Ctrl]Alt.
If you have plans of rerunning that set then let me know and ill scratch this one. After the difficulties you've had with the all too similar Decked Out buy on pmk I wouldn't want to step on the rest of your toes.

It's different enough from Nostalgia that you shouldn't be too concerned.  Especially this combo:

The legends look great, and this would be a definite buy in DSA profile for me.

I submitted this to PMK on Thursday for an interest check but i've not heard anything back from them yet.

Supports ANSI and ISO as an additional option.
Keyset is compiled of 4 sets.
Base
Numpad
Orange Mods
ISO

Cap profile is DSA in double-shot ABS.
ABS-GEW (Alphas)
ABS-GTA (Mods)
ABS-OAV (Orange)

I'm definitely in for base and mods, at least.  Shame about PBT.  That color limitation is sad days.

Not sure it would look right in PBT due to SP's limited colors, this is about as close at it gets. Thoughts?

Not bad at all. It looks kinda like a reversed dolch with orange legends.

Do you think you can do a mockup with ergodox? :D

SP won't do doubleshot PBT (some say they have the tooling, but they aren't offering it for keycap sets right now), so your only options are pad printing and dye sublimation.

Since dyesub only works with dark legends on light caps, it's out of the question for this colorway.  That leaves you with pad printing and I don't think you want to go down that road.

Doubleshot ABS is the only real option here.  PBT isn't going to work if you're using SP.
Title: Re: [IC] FRiED Keyset
Post by: Krizie on Mon, 18 August 2014, 09:00:13
Nope I don't think PBT is an option either so sticking with doubleshot ABS for this round.
Just thought I would add a proof of concept in the pbt colors we have to work with.

I'll have a crack at an ErgoDox shortly.

Title: Re: [IC] FRiED Keyset
Post by: Data on Mon, 18 August 2014, 09:52:33
That's pretty good.

If you're doing this on SP (PMK), you can just offer blanks for 1u, 1.5u, and 2u in the 3 colors as child deals and people can build their own Ergodox kits to go with the alphas from the main set.  Might be easier than trying to settle on a single layout.  I might want two 2u orange blanks for mine, for example.

Sounds good ill add the individual keys as an option!

EDIT: OP updated!

Post by: Karura on Mon, 18 August 2014, 10:04:20
Looks interesting enough! Shame about the lack of PBT options. Including an additional set of enough blank keys in both orange the the grey for Ergodox users might be best for flexibility!
Title: Re: [IC] FRiED Keyset
Post by: SpAmRaY on Mon, 18 August 2014, 10:18:58
Might also offer 'Esc' and 'Enter' in matching colors to rest of set for those who don't want the orange base color ones (unless they already are included) and also offer '~' and "\|' in matching colors to modifiers for those who like symmetry.
Title: Re: [IC] FRiED Keyset
Post by: Krizie on Mon, 18 August 2014, 10:43:47
Thanks for your input, OP updated!
The base keyset will be without any of the orange modifiers and will come with the lighter [~] and [\|] keys as included extras.
Makes sense for all the orange keys to be in one pack rather than spread across multiple.

This keyset should be available for purchase on PMK some time today/tomorrow.
The deal has been updated with all the available options and it should cater for everyones requirements.

My apologies for not getting back to this thread sooner, we've just moved house and only just got internets back!

Does the mock-up on PMK accurately reflect the size and font style of the legends we should expect with FRiED?

Just for the record, I wasn't asking you to change anything.  Just wanted to be sure the mock-up matched the final design of the key caps, within reason.  I don't think I've seen that font used before.

Me neither, but I believe that Fried is another typical example of a keyset that manages to become a group buy, because it looks very good, but has some issues with the legends/presentation. I'm not sure if Krizie was intended to run Fried with this custom font or if this font is from some sort of layout generator.

Apollo GT10 and Lunar are the most recent ones in the same situation.

However, we've got plenty of time to fix any mistakes (if there are any, maybe Fried is meant to be what is being advertised on the mockups).

Let's hope for the best and make sure everything tips.
