Got a new job as a teacher in a program called Teach for America! Thanks for the support CPT, Riot, Bunny!
Have been teaching for 2 weeks already, but haven't had time to post or do anything besides school. Can say I haven't been this happy in a while. Stressed, sleep deprived, and have no time for myself, but have a good reason to get up and work hard everyday ;D
-
Congrats on the new job, man! That's the real dream, actually loving what you do for a living :thumb:
-
Grats! That's awesome news. Ain't work when you're enjoying what you're doing.
-
Congrats buddy. Being able to enjoy what you do even when you are sleep deprived and stressed is a great thing, and doing something that helps people is great too!
-
Congrats, nothing more gratifying than mentoring/teaching

Great to hear that! My mom's a teacher, and while she didnt do the teach for america thing, I've read up on it and it's a great program. What grade level and subject do you teach?
Gratz on getting accepted to the program: I hear it's really hard and selective.

Congratulations.
I am also starting a teaching job, teaching Bachelor students at a Dutch university. Good luck man. That enthusiasm will probably ensure that you will do great !

Thanks everyone! Happy to see so much support!

Yeah, its become more selective. It has its good and bad like everything. I am teaching environmental science/biology and computer science to 9th graders :)

Haha, not a bad idea! I think I will need to get some donations in terms of switch types for them to try though! I only have browns and a topre board!

If you're serious, I have an MX switch tester I can send you as a loaner. PM me :D

That would be awesome. Actual boards would probably be better. I need to figure out where it would fit into my unit plan, haha.
-
congratulations bro! glad to hear the good news =)

Or just take a mechanical keyboard in so the students can actually use one.

Does your new workplace use Internet Explorer or Firefox?
-
I bet they have safari...

I like this idea best.
But make sure your students will be nice to the keyboard.

Definitely IE. Who would use firefox?

Hey, this is awesome news! Great to hear it. :thumb:
I did a brief one-on-one info session / interview thing with them, and if I didn't get a different job I probably would have pursued it further. It's a very neat path to go down. And it's pretty competitive, because one of my friends who was super set on doing that (and I think would have been great) was actually turned down. :(
Not to take away from your achievement, I'm just saying it is tough! Again, congrats! ;D

No they don't.

Haha, we will go over how to use them safely before anything

Bringing in a couple boards for the students to try today! :) Wish I had time to build my ergodox =/
-
What are you bringing them??
-
Grats dude!
-
Congrats on the job. Make us proud!
-
congrats sir! I used to work for the school district and I really enjoyed working with kids.
-
Thanks everyone for the support!

I brought out an hhkb and my qftk with browns. We didn't actually get around to trying them out since they were so into their typing. I will bring them back on Thursday, haha.

The kids are great, their typing ability is not so. In my school district it was a requirement to take a typing class in middle school. They don't have that at this district so everyone is still typing with two fingers and looking down. The bad thing is that many of them consider themselves proficient at typing with 15-30wpm with no sense of touch typing at all.
