Title: Razer Blackwidow Chroma
Post by: exitfire401 on Tue, 12 August 2014, 23:23:00

The new Razer Blackwidow featuring their customized Kaihl switches and RGB backlighting. Thoughts? After trying one of these with the new switches, they're not bad. They feel very similar to MX blues/browns (no noticeable difference to me).

Looks like they released their own switches so they could do the multicolor thing with that corsair has, probably cause cherry didn't want them or something. Seems like it has all been planned beforehand

EDIT: Hopefully it will have the same amount of LED customization that corsair has.

The perfect keyboard for young male virgins.

It even farts when you press a key (patent pending). Glee ensues.

Dad is preparing the check.

Wow - I want a keyboard that does that random fast rainbow flashing thing, it would totally help me to concentrate on my work!

It looks like it's basically the same, with the possible exception of programmable LED intensity. Razer's docs don't mention it. I tweeted at them and asked, will see what they say.

You mean competition on totally useless and distracting features designed to mesmerize two years olds?  :)

Meanwhile we are still not able to put Cherry keycaps on Topre boards. That's where I would like to see some innovation/competition. Just an example.

The specifically mentions gaming genres. This board is 110% going to increase your skill in FPS, MMO, RTS and more.

I bet it has a built in macro key dedicated to tell your opponents to "RIP in pepperoni".

I would buy it if it wasn't Razer. Poor support if something goes wrong. I am drawn to shiny things. The colors do impress me. I wish Ducky or someone reputable would get on this. We need a rainbow lit TKL.

Speaking from a viewpoint of those who are interested in buying RGB keyboards, it seems silly to buy this for $180 when Corsair is selling theirs at a similar price point but with Cherry switches and not Kailh. Considering most other boards that use Kailh switches are cheaper than Cherry ones, this is overpriced in my opinion.

I just like seeing new things. I don't personally care who makes it, just make sure it's not going to fall apart on me, and we're good.

Razer switches (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Razer_switch) are not identical to (old) Kailh switches. Even though Razer has spewed a lot of marketing bullcrap about their switches, it is a fact that the Razer switches are a revised design.
While it is well known that (old) Kailh switches are of lower quality than Cherry MX, I have yet to see proof that the Razer switches specifically would be of lower quality than Cherry's. Unfortunately, most people who would be minded towards doing a detailed analysis of the switches are people who abhor Razer, so they would never buy their products.

still only a notify link at razer's website

would really be interested in a brightness comparison to other ( corsair ) rgb mech boards.
I am hoping for something bright enuff to see with active shutter glasses and aging eyesight.
