Post by: IBI on Tue, 09 June 2009, 11:28:40
Clicky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-Spacesaver-PS-2-keyboard-Modern-remake_W0QQitemZ220430788187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_ComputerComponents_KeyboardsMice?hash=item3352b2e65b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A10%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A4%7C294%3A50).

The Seller is claiming that it's an IBM spacesaver remake which it's clearly not being unicomp's similarly named by different layout spacesaver. EDIT: It appears it may not be a buckling spring keyboard though.

It's £35 delivered buy it now, with the seller accepting offers.

"A quiet touch (rubber dome) version is also available for customers who want the same heavy duty design without the audible "click" of the buckling spring version". -Unicomp

And in the auction says is a quiet touch model....
So I think is a rubber dome...

Ah, now I see. I keep forgetting about those.

I wonder if the rubber dome Unicomps are any good?? Did a search but didn't see anyone here with one.

Those aren't; they're just regular rubber domes.  They don't have the "buckling rubber sleeves" like the M4

Sorry, I missed that. I guess I was thinking it was a soft touch keyboard but Unicomp don't offer them do they?

They'll do it for a fee and, I think, loss of warantee.

Don't think so, it's just a menu drop down option - same price. But then Unicomps website is not the most informative.

Anyway - sounds like it's not a good deal any way you look at it.

You're talking about Quiet Touch; IBI was talking about Soft Touch - i.e. greased springs.  This is a special request item.

That was IBM's terminology.  Very confusing.

That rumor has been floating around for quite some time, but they scrapped the plan.  This is exactly the rub with Unicomp.

you can do this yourself at home - there's a couple of threads in the keyboard mod section on this.
