I've been trying to find out more about the es-87 TKL, since I'm thinking about getting one w/ mx clears. the only thing is, I can't find a typing demonstration video on YouTube that fits one of these with pbt caps. does anyone own one of these (browns, clears, blacks, reds ) with a set of pbt caps and would you be willing to make a quick typing sound demo? are they practically identitical in sound to a QFR with those caps and switches?
-
I own one with clears, but my PBT caps won't get here for another few weeks. :(
I imagine someone here's already got PBTs on theirs. I'm interested in the sound myself.
-
thin PBT ok?
-
yeah. that would be helpful. thanks!
-
alright give me a minute
-
it's quiet and still uploading but here, should be good in like 20 minutes
my upload speed is really trash
-
wow. this adds some more perspective to this keyboard, imo. I love how mellow the sound, and how there's also the definite crunch. that's kind of what I was looking for.
thanks for the help. ^··^

i do my best
-
Wow that is indeed mellow.
Watching/hearing that makes me want to get one.
Can you do a similar one with a Filco (if you've got thin pbt caps on it) or I guess even your Realforce (for baseline purposes)
-
yeah ill do them in the morning

I've got thick PBT Leopolds on my KUL and did a quick sound test for you.
Disclaimer: I thwack the space bar like the end of the world is coming and I don't care who knows it!

thanks hucifer. this thread was really informative. i just ordered a set of thick PBTs.
now I'm tempted to get a kul es-87 with mx clears. hucifer, is it difficult to avoid bottoming out on the es-87?
-
it's MX clears so it's harder, but you could always just get some o-rings or soft landing pads.
The board is much quieter than most other boards, so noise isn't much of a concern with it.
EDIT: I'm making a bunch of typing videos right now, so if you keep checking my channel this afternoon you should see a few pop up.

I would say they're on a par with Blues but I can't be 100% sure as I bottom out no matter what keys I use.
I can definitely say that they're quietest mx switches for me, although I haven't tried whites or greys, and that they feel just lovely with thick keycaps!
-
whites are clicky and greys are just heavy clears/blacks (depends on which grey)

good effort, TS. the QFRs with mx blacks sound pretty good, too. and I'd like to try my hand (literally ) at some 55g topre someday.
tthanks for advising o-rings. I bought two kinds: thin silicon and A50 rubber.
