So I got this durian from this guy righ...
It's got a small split on the side, and this afternoon, there was another second small split..
According to google... this is ready to eat... But it also says that durian may taste better if I wait LONGER for much larger splits..
Any xperts on This > ??

Put your nose to the butt. If there is smell it's a good durian. The stronger the smell the better it is.

well.. I get the process.. but since I have no previous experience to cross reference the intensity of the smell..
Could you perhaps specify something more n00b prooof.. ?

I dun think there are any other methods. Some people use a knife to hit the durian, apparently to hear if there is meat, but IMHO I think that you would probably get many durian which do not taste nice.
Smelling is still the best method. If there's no smell, or very faint, it's lousy.

plot twist he poisoned it

hahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha.........
don't worry paipai... this is not the same guy that sold me the mosquito stickers...

I am guessing that a durian is some sort of fruit or veggie?

Durian is considered the King of Fruits in Malaysia. I should be an expert in a country that worship Durians but I hate this fruit. So I can't provide any valuable input.

Long as you don't mind butt scented fruit..
-
i hate it

Look it up on Wikipedia, from what I've learned its not for me. I stick with the "if it smells bad don't eat it" mindset.
-
this guy had a show (still does?) he ate every disgusting thing in the world, if it was spoiled and rotten, he ate it. now mind you, the spoiled/rotten stuff, humans cooked/created, listen to what the farmer says, it's just fruit, thats what it smells like, it's pretty much nature from soil to table.
balut/haggas/hakarl all created/cooked by humans, this guy ate it all.
he could not eat durian
i ate it as a kid, it was fine, family made sure to eat the whole damn durian (made it cold in the fridge first) in 1 go and quickly threw out the casing, the seed in the trash when we did.

if you roast the everloving **** out of it it's tolerable

Those 2 looked close to each other on the map, also i would probably bring a smartphone, and have the durian picture ready to just ask an employee with it.

'Tis true! Fresh durian, durian jelly, durian cakes, durian candies, even a filthy durian soda that tasted like the liquid that collects in the corners of a particularly full trash bag, only carbonated. My old rommate had a bit of an obsession with daring people to try it, so I tried a lot of it :( I have concluded durian is not meant for human consumption, but instead is a biological weapon both for lobbing spikily at your enemies, or opening it up and making them eat some.

Durians are pretty good although I've only had it once!

Maybe they reverse spoil, and you actually ate a rotten one.

I don't know about you but my significant other's do not smell, plus you know what they say... you are what you eat, and i still ain't **** :)

Ok.. so I got it open , and ate some.. Pretty good.. the smell isn't super strong yet, and some parts of it is not yet ripe..
So... overall I think this has been a good experience..... I might be more daring with my next durian and wait till it's uber-ripe...

It's supposed to be mushy, almost like a pudding. When it's unripe the flavor won't be too bad.

No, a durian is a form of weapon. Nature's version of a medieval mace.
In Singapore in the past because guns were totally unavailable and long knives were banned, gangs had to fight with durians which were about the most dangerous thing easy to get hold of.
