Hi, all. I’m new to the current mechanical keyboard scene; but have been using computer keyboards since before the buckling spring era. My first computer keyboard was a Teletype Model 33 :eek:, which explains a lot, actually, it’s probably why I always bottom out when I type! Not a touch typist, but I’ve been hacking away for so long my fingers know more or less where to go. But I do glance down at legends, especially for punctuation.
I used IBM buckling springs for so long, I think I’m permanently sick of them, but I understand the love. They really were well-built. But just imagine an entire office of them! And thanks for reminding me about the 122-key IBM keyboard. I used that keyboard a lot on the PC 3270 (I think it was called). Based off an AT maybe? (Yeah, I could go look it up). I also had a PCjr (hey! XT’s were like 5 grand) and I knew the keyboard was awful before I bought it, so I picked up a Key Tronic KB5150jr, to this day one of my favorite keyboards. I still prefer a 5-key arrow keyset with Home/End, PgUp/Dn tucked in the corners, so I use the “numpad” a lot. Combine that with being left-handed and I’ve got a *weird* keyboard style. :cool:
My recent experience includes a Deck with linear keys (did not like) and a Corsair with MX browns (did not like – I see now why they’re called “dirty reds”). I’ll try some O-rings on it, but I don’t think I’ll ever love it. I have a CODE with MX greens on order, so that should be interesting. Other kinds that look cool are Topres (any keycap testers for these?) and the smaller keyboards. So cute, especially with custom keysets! The fun can be in the search.
This is a very cool place, I especially love the passion for keysets and I think I’m gonna hurt my wallet badly on GBs. I have learned loads already from reading here: excellent “elders” and moderators; very impressive!
Before I came here I was excited for the K70 RGB to come out. Now I don’t care as much, but can’t wait for the CM Novatouch :p

MX greens are probably the closest modern switch to BS, but I still have a slight preference for BS :))
There are a few Topre keyrings around, if you are lucky enough to find one, otherwise not really, no.

I have tried a BS board and an mx blue board which is essentially the same as the greens in essence.
I can honestly say that BS boards are worlds smoother than the newer clicky boards of this generation.

There are a few Topre keyrings around, if you are lucky enough to find one, otherwise not really, no.

They *are* solid and smooth. My 'endgame' keyboard (if there is one for me!) may end up not with Cherry MXs at all, maybe Topre or ???
