Title: What's up fellas
Post by: bounstar on Sun, 31 August 2014, 07:55:27
I made this account originally when I was researching for a good entry level keyboard. Forgot about it for a couple years before I started seeing a lot of activity from the /r/MK subreddit. A couple galleries of these beautiful custom korean boards started cropping up and it had me hooked. I took the plunge with the Ducky Eagle GB. This will be my first experience with soldering so I'm looking to get more practice before it arrives. I've been lurking for a couple months now and I'm always surprised at how encouraging and positive the majority of the posters are. Stay awesome community.

Welcome (belatedly) to Geekhack!

For soldering practice, you should try to find an old circuit board (e.g. from an old TV or DVD or even an old computer, although they tend towards SMD rather than through-hole).  Desolder the components.  Solder them back in.  You can repeat this without worrying about damaging a new keyboard.

Also consider having a read of the huge soldering thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42824.0).

Thanks for the resources. I'll check out closer to when the kit comes in. Very excited!
