It could work like this:
--geekhackers submit questions for various manufacturers
--manufacturers are invited to respond to those questions, their answers posted on a geekhack thread.
--follow up discussion on the thread which the reps can choose if they want to follow or not.
Of course this could be done one rep at a time, based on interest and number of questions. Collect questions, invite a rep.

I think we should start with the unicomp rep :)
-
lol. if jim has been reading my emails at all, he knows what to expect when he comes here ;)
-
We've already got an i-rocks rep and majestouch fills the roll of a Filco rep admirably. Unicomp would be easy to get considering the amount of buyers from this forum and the small size of the company... ABS is a subsidiary of newegg so I don't think they would have the time to deal with us "little guys" over one single product... Deck has a rep here somewhere but he hasn't posted in a while (They're supposed to be releasing a tactile deck soon so you may see a forum announcement...) and I don't know about the rest...

I think someone other than me would have to approach them. I'm pretty sure i'm on their blacklist ;)

They aren't celebrities these reps. Why would they want to have a meet and greet? And the one thing this forum has taught me is that reps don't always know their stuff. And another problem with this is why would they do it here instead of on their Co.'s forum?
Sorry to piss in your hair Welly, but I just don't get the slant in this.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful ....

Because this is quite possibly the most popular english-speaking keyboard forum... They'd be crazy to not want some form of representation on the forum...
-
Instead of a "meet the reps" day, I think that the folks here should simply compile a list of questions for each of the vendors. Unicomp (and others) are typically not shy if you call them on the phone.
Task a few members with interviewing the vendors on the phone and post the Q&A here. That is much more likely to be successful than having them come here to be bombarded with questions.
-
I can see it now, geeky mouth breathers calling up Unicomp
"heheheh Hello? Jim Owens?"
"Yes this is Jim Owens with Unicomp"
"Hehehe ok well me and a few others from an internet forum have a couple questions, question 1: What do you eat for dinner??"

Why would they want to have a meet and greet?
well, presumably cuz its good for their business...
And the one thing this forum has taught me is that reps don't always know their stuff.
true, so it would be educational for both sides.
And another problem with this is why would they do it here instead of on their Co.'s forum?
cuz we're here. Cuz 800 registered keyboard fanatics are in one place. generally it makes good business sense to go where the market is concentrated.
Sorry to piss in your hair Welly, but I just don't get the slant in this.
lol, no problem. so long as you dont actually piss on my hair i think we should be alright ;)
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful ....
you're not rich either... so I definitely dont hate you ;)

thats absolutely correct

ya i agree that listing questions up front is better. the experience would be more organized that way too.

We should have the GH troll brigade call the vendors. That'll learn 'em.
I would be interested in hearing the outcome of this.
-
And Welly, don't worry, I only piss on girls.

I wanna p*ss on you...

We should get Robert Rolling from CST to roll on over in his giant hamster-ball or whatever he uses to roll around so he can give a product demo.

Thats not gonna get him laid.
-
One question: Why?
(...does he walk in a hamster ball. I completely understand why he wouldn't get laid.)

He's training for American Gladiators.

Well, we now have two vendor forums...with the requisite vendor reps to participate. Most know about majestouch and EliteKeyboards. Now we have DSI-Bradley representing DSI. Feel free to start queuing up questions for him in the new DSI forum.
Unicomp and metadot are still silent on the idea...while clickykeyboards is definitely open to the idea, but needs to discuss internally whether they can dedicate the time necessary to monitor regularly.

What about iRocks? Someone from there already has an account here, so they might want to join in.

Well, any other vendor is welcome. They just need to PM or email me.
