So, I set my Fn key to the Right Windows key, making the default Fn key turn into a menu key... I unplugged the board while the PC was still on and plugged it back in. Now my new Fn key is back to being the windows key but the default Fn key is still Menu.... Basically I don't have an Fn key on a %60 board.
DUCKY HAS FIXED THIS ISSUE - http://goo.gl/4iKxbE (YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) :thumb: .... This is how all business should be done.
-
can't you set it back with the DIP switches or (worst case) reset the whole board? I forgot the key combination but it should be in the manual

No dip switches and Fn key required to factory reset... literally ****ed.
-
I thought it was the same as the poker II ?
If you take out the PCB, there are no dipswitches on the PCB (even if they're not being used)
-
Damn, that's a hell of a bug...
I'm assuming you've replugged it in a bunch of times, power-cycled the computer with it still plugged in (had a mouse that needed this occasionally) etc?
-
Yup, I'd try restarting your computer and plugging/unplugging your computer.
For anyone trying to help here is the manual (http://www.duckychannel.net/download/user_manual/MINI_User_Manual.pdf).
I wonder what would happen if you set it to "Mobile Power Demo Mode". Perhaps that would reset your layout?

It doesn't do anything when I plug into my pc and I have tried restarting my pc... no luck
-
Did you try setting it to the Mobile Power Demo Mode just for ****s and giggles?
-
Have you tried:
hold down "ctrl+shift+capslock, then plug it into a power source (PC or USB wall charger) to enable mobile power demo mode?
Then you might be able to remap one of the keys to be FN again. Try holding it down to see if you can get back in the fn mode.
Other than that, you can wait for ducky to release a firmware upgrade for it.

Yeah I tried that mode both with my PC and a phone charger in an outlet... convinced that mode isn't real.
-
Hm. On my Kingsaver, I know once I get it into programming mode, I can revert to the last mode it was in by holding escape, then plugging it in, and unplugging it. Escape does what FN+ALT+H does. Perhaps you can hold Menu or Capslock or Control while plugging and unplugging to get it to go back into programming mode then setting FN or seeing if it can be reset to the default settings?
-
You've tried these thing using both the old, and new Fn key? Maybe it wants you to use the factory key ... or maybe it's remembering that you moved your Fn key ...
-
Oh here's another idea. I recall that metalliqaz said he used a magnet to trip the Epsilon to go back into programming mode. Perhaps you can do that? I would PM him first to verify though. And be very very careful if you do this haha. Not sure if that will make things worse.
-
So how did you program your FN keys? Was it by using ducky advisor? fn+shift+h?
-
So how did you program your FN keys? Was it by using ducky advisor? fn+shift+h?
Yes. All I did was make the right windows key Fn. This causes the original Fn to become a menu key. Now I have a menu key and right windows instead of Fn.

You did the same thing and it happened to you?! If you ordered from Mechanicalkeyboards.com send them a support email explaining exactly this. They emailed my exact email to James at ducky in Taiwan asking if there is anything I can do to fix it on my end or theres. Maybe if more people report the same issue they will release a firmware fixing the problem! Or at least offer a download that manually factory resets the thing...

Rofl! If you're Binge it is. Eager to see a happy ending soon with Master Binge at the helm ;)

I think he just emulated the issue so he could help by having an example in front of him :)

Sucky ducky :p
They'll probably release a firmware patch for you guys in a month

A really ballsy way of helping that I really appreciate. This problem should be brought to Ducky's attention so they can fix it.

you got it brother, I'm trying everything at my disposal to get this solved (if possible). I have plenty of keyboards to use other than this, so not much of a setback.
The key here is we know it is repeatable, and now we're making tools to expand functionality (lol) of the keyboard.

I thought it had a reed switch like the replacement costar controllers bpiphany designs does.

So we should go a month without the LED's, any media keys, F row, Tilde, delete, pause, insert, Pg up/down, end OR FREAKING ARROW KEYS?!

I have other boards as well but the point is I spent money on this, it should work as advertised. Question. Did you just unplug your board with your pc still on to break it or did you just restart your pc?

Long shot but maybe an AHK or xmodmap binding messing with you guys?

Nah it's their patented ducky Bull****.
-
Could you use AHK to give yourself a function key so you can reset the board?
-

not two separate computers, two separate people, including using the menu-to-reset keys powered off a phone charger. Also, Fn doesn't send anything, so AHK is pretty useless in this instance.
-

There is no AHK functionality. No "Pn".
-
Hey hey no need to defend yourself for wanting what you paid for. I know I do!
Just desoldered the entire thing. There's no way to manually reset it with a dip switch or buttons. Only way to get at the controller is through USB WOMP WOMP WOMP.
-
maybe :
Boot a live Linux distro
Xev and find out hex for pn
Xmodmap remap something to pn?
___
tried with my poker II. PN doesn't send anything to os. I'm assuming PN is only passed to keyboard. Makes sense -- :blank: :/ :/ :/

Even if you find a fix through desoldering it's not an option for me. :'(

I have very little confidence that I'll be able to find a fix.
BTW power mode does work (not connected to a PC). It only works with the left ctrl shift and caps, BUT it keeps your normal keyboard settings.

Really? I used the left keys... Well at least now I know it doesn't fix anything anyway... Literally all we need is a download from ducky's site that factory resets. Then an update that let's us do this without this happening. Also did you unplug the board and plug it back in or did you just restart your pc?????

I put my PC to sleep just to see if it could be broken a different way.

So basically as soon as the board stopped getting power this problem happens is that what we are concluding?

So basically as soon as the board stopped getting power this problem happens is that what we are concluding?
Probably. I have my sleep mode set to not wake via keyboard, and so my mobo doesn't power the keyboard at all while in sleep mode. It would be safe to say there's an issue with reprogramming the location of FN and cutting power from the ducky mini.

The most interesting part is I actually went through ducky advisor to change the Esc key from the default tilde to an actual escape key and it still works as the Esc key I set it to which is mode 2...

There's a scancode for it, although so far as I know nothing in X11 listens to it. It's the same key as the Mac command (and option is the same as Alt, or vice versa)

Idk I don't have one. Sent this thread this thread to mechanicalkeyboards support and ducky so hopefully they can rectify this.

Is there a hyper ? Control is just control, right?
What X11 client responds to the space invader keyboard?
Man I wish Gentoo hadn't killed themselves with Grub2 & no-boot-to-the-kernel silliness. I miss Linux.

Could you use AHK to give yourself a function key so you can reset the board?
fn keys do not send scancodes, so that wouldn't work. They only access the KB firmware

I have nothing to contribute, other than that is a hell of a bug. Fn key got lost.

Okay... can we give Binge some kind of GH MAN of the Year award for purposely breaking his keyboard to try to help?
Sorry I am of no use here, but I just had to comment on this.

[insert inspirational quote here]
Half of the breaking of the keyboard (desoldering) was part of the plan from the beginning. Stock MX blues weren't going to replace themselves with MX whites :p Binge ain't no saint xD

Binge got a Facebook reply from ducky saying "i am on top of this"... Hopefully this amounts to something quickly!

That's exactly what a saint would say...

I thought Binge was supposed to be an Asian Seinfeld.

I didn't even know that the Ducky mini was out, damn.
Might have to pick one up to be honest.

I am asking mechanicalkeyboards if I can swap out the defective model for a new one. The board is perfect as long as the person is aware of this flaw and can wait until the release a firmware update to make it useable without causing this mayhem.

Extremely satisfied. Personally tested this as a guaranteed fix. The firmware reset my mini, I then changed the Fn location and restarted my pc. Loaded it up and bam, works as advertised.. Man I love that Poker II Fn placement.

Damn dude glad you got the firmware fix!

Hooray for Ducky!
Now, did you get a freebie or something for diagnosing a potentially serious problem for them?

I don't know, probably something simple, like a gift voucher, or a carry bag.
They could have had a lot of returns if this wasn't fixed!

Way to push the issue and get it resolved Aiden and Binge. Attacked it on all fronts: forum, email, facebook, etc.

Confirming the above. This was a quick and painless fix. Amazing response from Ducky :)
