Title: Multiple Poker's
Post by: ryhanson on Wed, 03 September 2014, 23:54:46
Am I crazy for wanting to buy another Poker II? Do any of you guys have multiples of the same keyboard because you love them so much and want one at home and work, or just want them with different switches?

I have a Poker II that I use at my office that has MX Browns, and I absolutely love it. I like it more than my WASD v2 with MX Clears. I thought it was the PBT caps that made me like the Poker more than my WASD, so I ordered some Blue/Grey Engraved Ducky PBT's that are nice and thick and that definitely helped the feel of my WASD, but there is still something abou the Poker that I just can't put my finger on. Maybe it is the Browns vs the Clears?

So I use the WASD at home on my iMac and use the Poker II at work on my PC, but I really want to get another Poker with some MX Blues for my house as well. I've already ordered a set of Raindrop v2 caps for my current Poker along with a aluminum case. I just love the little thing so much.

I can't be the only one who has ran into this same predicament. Please someone tell me I am not alone and post a picture of your multiple Poker's :)

I get variations. My Poker X is clears ANSI.  My Ducky Mini (poker II basically) is ISO with reds. My GH60 (almost poker) is left stemmed caps, ISO, and happy layout, vintage clears. :)

I love getting variations of the poker!

Hmmmm the Ducky Mini looks enticing actually. I noticed that MechanicalKeyboards just go them in stock too. It looks like they would fit just fine in a different case too and they seem to have standard key sizes as well.

Do you know if they are as programmable as the Poker? I would like to reprogram the Fn layer to be the same as my Poker, so the arrow keys are the WASD keys.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I think you can program the Ducky Mini using the software provided by Ducky. Be careful though as there have been users who have experience issue in change the FN key, http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=62427

V2 has a left side USB so you wont be able to swap cases (TOO easy) Im sure its possible some how.  Im not sure if their is a PN layer but there is a FN layer.

I have a v1 ducky mini which is just a rebranded poker II German ISO. lol That version is just as programmable w PN and FN layer since its basically a poker II. I just liked the name, hehe..

Youre welcome!

Dang, I don't think I like that bezel on the new Ducky. I might just end up getting another Poker II, it is such a solid 60% and I love that all the keycaps are standard sizes.

I think it's pretty common here for people to have multiples of the same or very similar boards.  :))

At one point, I had 3 pokers, Gon 60, Gon Skinny, and a 2TU.  They were all the same switch, springs, and form factor.  But, for some reason, I just needed all of them.  :p  I tried to rationalize it by telling myself certain colors only went with certain cases so I needed more.

Edit - Heck, I'd recently gotten two KBParadise V60 Mini at the same time, one with Cherry Green, the other Cherry White.

Well you guys had me convinced that my justification for another Poker II was just fine.

So I go to order it this morning, and all the Poker's with Blues are sold out :( fuhhhhh!!

I would want a Poker II with clears. That would be awesome. I love my Poker II with browns and I have the aluminum Vortex case ordered for it, too.

So I emailed MechanicalKeyboards and asked if they happen to have an extra Poker II with Blues laying around and they just so happen to have one left, order has been placed!

Clears are nice switches, I have them in my WASD v2, I bet they would be really nice in a Poker.

I got mine from there too, great service. Came with the blank space bar as well, so I was really happy about that.

Nicely done ryhanson!

I never thought I would have more than one, but I now have three (Black, Red and White)!  So it's easy to do, because they're great boards.

Here is some other discussion that might help you not geared specifically towards multiples pokers just multiples in general http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=61618.0

i had 2 das keyboards for work and home, but now i'm phasing them out for poker IIs.  I sold off 1 of the das keyboards, but i'm keeping the other because it was a present many years ago.

i currently have a poker with browns, and the poker with clears shipped yesterday.  it's also nice having 2 in case something catastrophic happens to 1.

Proud owner of two Pokers, at work and home, one white, one black, both mx browns. I am enjoying my feeling!

So what's the deal with clears?  Just require more force? I definitely want the lightness of the browns, since it is easier on the fingers.

3 Poker X's here. Two browns, one red. Some plated, some not. All fun.

If you like the lightness of the brown's, I'm not sure you would like the clears then. They definitely require more force. Especially if you are the type of person to bottom out your keys. They don't take much force to get to the actuation point, but past that the force increases.

I would want a Poker II with clears. That would be awesome. I love my Poker II with browns and I have the aluminum Vortex case ordered for it, too.

As paobit mentioned, the Poker II with clears just hit MassDrop again, better get in on it! https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kbc-poker-2-clear

I was going to get another Poker II and well, I'm still tempted, I really like the PN function. I think I'm going to wait for the KBParadise V60 Matias or the Matias 60 mostly I just want to try Matias switches and a 60% seems like a good bet, but I will miss the PN function.
