Title: Alternatives to ChangeColors (Dark web pages)
Post by: Altis on Fri, 05 September 2014, 17:29:55
I used a Google Chrome extension called ChangeColors for a few years. It was amazing... at the touch of a button, it would change the background color on pretty much every single webpage to black (my settings) with white text.

However, it appears it's been dropped from the Google store, and even if you install it manually, Chrome kicks it out and says it's not supported (despite working perfectly).

Does anybody use something similar?  Geekhack is great because the pages can be dark with light letters. Other pages are seriously doing damage to my eyes. We aren't meant to stare into a big bright light and try to make out thin little shapes. I'm surprised more people aren't concerned about this.

Anyways, I tried G.lux, and it wasn't all too helpful... it just tints the entire webpage. Forcing colors in IE doesn't work on most pages apparently and causes some issues.

I appreciate any help in advance. My poor eyes can't take the strain of these super-white web pages everywhere. That worked on paper... not so much with backlit screens.

Maybe try stylish and set a global style like nightshift. It might not work everywhere all the time though.

I use hackervision

it's a high-contrast plugin, not a dark one.

I like it a lot tho

Thanks for the replies, I'll give them a try.

ChangeColors worked so beautifully. I could feel my eyes relax the moment I toggled it.

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like having white backgrounds for web pages. Geekhack is that much more pleasant thanks to its dark theme!
