Title: Printing on black IBM Model M keycaps.. (preventing wear)
Post by: silas1128 on Tue, 09 September 2014, 18:59:20
So I have an M13 coming in the mail, I don't really know the condition of the lettering because it was kind of a blind buy.

Anyway, I know the lettering wears off easy. Has anyone done anything to try to prevent that? Some kind of spray on enamel or anything?

Wear it down until it completely fades and feel like a pro.  :thumb:

well I think I am going to just use a few parts for a custom board. But if I use some of the keys I think I will want the lettering on the keys (otherwise I'll just buy some blanks from unicomp, which I might anyway). But I guess I will see what the condition is when I get the board and go from there.

ADD: after doing some amazoning, I think I'll try a spray enamel or two on some keys and see how it finishes. After reading some reviews I think it may work well. We'll see!!

Hmmm... Satin finish clear enamel may be quite nice, actually. It will change the key feel slightly, but hopefully not too much.
